Shooting steel/gong recommnedations

Re: Shooting steel/gong recommnedations

For cheap, your local scrap yard is your friend. Shoot it up and throw it out. If you want to buy some reasonably priced steel, there are vendors here that can help.

Good luck

Re: Shooting steel/gong recommnedations

yea i originally was gonna get somethign like the Evil Roy by action targets but.. I seen it was only rated for 45acp/44mag. Big bummer there. Ill check the vendors also

Re: Shooting steel/gong recommnedations

Second Bobcat Steel and also add Big Dog Steel. Both great companies and reasonably priced AR500 targets.

Steel from both these companies has been blasted by me with countless .22-250,.260,7mm08,.308, 7.62x39 and 7.5 Swiss rounds with hardly a tiny dimple.

Crap scrap will crater severely and immediately. Maybe it'll last a day and maybe you'll get some wild ass ricochetes.

Bobcat Steel is an awesome guy and his products are TOP notch!! Not only that but he strongly supports shooting sports here locally as well as some national competitions.

If you're interested in custom cuts he may do those for you.

If you fancy custom targets.... I'd say call him and ask about his "life size Zombie" or "Spongebob" targets (Seriously, who doesn't want to unload mag after mag into that yellow little PITA)....

Either way you can know you're getting a great product and supporting a good guy who does his part to give back to the shooting community when you purchase from him.

Re: Shooting steel/gong recommnedations

well it looks like I am gonna have to save up some more and get some good stuff for the centerfire rifles. I have learned my lesson before form "cheaping" out. The good steel targets are gonna put a big dent in my wallet but it will be worth it in the end.
Just out of curosity I am pretty interested in the MGM 22 autopopper. Are they worth anything? I think be fun to shoot at from 50 to 200+ yards with my 22lr.

MGM makes good stuff. I own several of his auto poppers. All of his targets are AR-500. MGM also heavily supports the shooting sports.

Re: Shooting steel/gong recommnedations

Well good to know MGm makes good stuff. OK another question. I shoot 22lr wolf target match. If i get the 22 auto popper. Would it have the energy to knock that thing down at 200 yards? I figure its desgined for 50-75 yard hits. Cause if its not going to fall down at that range then im just banging steel. So I might as well just get the rifle popper and be able to shoot it with the 223/308 rounds also. I can still shoot it with the 22. Just make anice little ping off of it. I would like the popping affect at 200 yards with 22 ammo if possible.

Re: Shooting steel/gong recommnedations

For .22 rimfire (CCI Green Tag to be exact)shooting 50 to 200 yds I cut up 2"x4" pieces of angle iron and just stand them on the sillhouette rails at the range. .22 isn't going to hurt the steel and although you have to go set them up after you knock them down, they are light enough that you can set up two dozen at a time. Just don't leave them laying around or some idiot is bound to use them with his .223 and destroy them. They make a nice "ping" and easily topple when hit.

Re: Shooting steel/gong recommnedations

WelL i have some small gongs and spinners that can handle the 22. I just dont have any good steel for the bigger rifles. But i am interested in the 22 auto popper. Be something different to shoot with the 22. Sounds like fun. But i kinda doubt the 22 would have energy to knock it over at 200+ yards.
