I am about to purchace a can for an AR but have heard that shooting a suppressed AR left handed can be distracting due to blowback... Is this an Issue? Please let me know left handed shooters...

Thanks
Richard

It can, but you can get somewhat used to it. You ought to try one out first, it looks like you're not too far from Liberty Suppressors. Give David a call, he'll let you try out one of his cans.

Re: Shooting Suppressed AR Left Handed?

My lefty buddy shoots his AR and AR10 suppressed. It's noticeable, but not prohibitive. The fun and effectiveness of the suppressor more than offset the extra backpressure.

Re: Shooting Suppressed AR Left Handed?

There are things you can do to cut back on the blowback. The gasbuster charge handle, a heavier buffer weight, and a stronger buffer tube spring can have a noticeable effect.

I bought a gas buster for my brother. He said it makes no difference. I have since heard that the gas buster reduces gas coming out of the opposite side of the ejection port. Is this true?

I am a wrong sider and I have shot my Gemtech HVT on my DPMS 308 AR's and there is blowback but not bad enough to stop what I am trying to accomplish.

+1 on that, I shoot my Stag 8L suppressed all the time, as long as your outdoors its not bad at all. Like the others said glasses are always a must.

Very much agree.

Also, some suppressors will have more gas blow back than others. There are a lot of variables at play to include the suppressor style & design (e.g. over the barrel designs), caliber, mount type, barrel length, ammo, recoil spring, carrier type, buffer weight & design, etc.

Re: Shooting Suppressed AR Left Handed?

i shoot a AWC 5.6 can on a Bushmaster V-match as a lefty.
the blow back will be distracting until you get use to it.
glasses are a must, not only for the blow back ,but the discharging brass in you face from being on the wrong side. but hey,, we left handed people are superior,,, we can adapt to any righty's conditions.

Re: Shooting Suppressed AR Left Handed?

I am LH and own 3 suppressed AR in 5.56 and one in 308 and if you wear some wrap around safety glasses it is ok. my M16 gasses me out and makes it hard to breath. I have no problem so far with My DPMS 308. I never thought I would get tired of smelling gun powder but I did and it burns the eyes. I build ARs and never bothered doing a left hand one for myself. I have built some for customers and shot them suppressed with M16 lower and it made a world of difference. get a stag upper receiver, bolt and carrier and be done with it for 300.00 in parts.
