What gloves are you using for rifle or pistol shooting. I compete in PRS and 3 gun matches on a fairly regular basis and have been buying Mechanix, cutting of the index and thumb of each glove, and going with it.

Are there any gloves you reccomend? I have been looking at the Mechanix Recon.

I would hit up a few local motorcycle stores and check those out. You can get a better glove for the same price as a tacticool glove. Are you looking for hard knuckle or just something to cover the hand?

Me personally, I hate gloves. I work outside, and even when it's 20 out, I don't wear gloves.

They don’t have to be hard knuckle. Just something to protect my hands without losing too much dexterity.

Other than warmth when necessary, why wear gloves to shoot? I noticed the Sig Academy in NH requires shooters to wear gloves. If I was routinely in situations where I expected to get into hands-on encounters I could understand the benefit of gloves. But for shooting. I am at a loss. Can someone please enlighten me...

Wow, this is a ancient thread. There are occupational hazards that make a good case for gloves. You may notice every picture of a active duty soldier shows them wearing gloves. Same with law enforcement. My guess is that Sig train like one fights.

Training for urban combat...I don't normally wear gloves so if I find myself in an unfortunate situation like that I won't have gloves. Guess I should train the way I live. That said, there isn't an obvious reason to wear gloves when shooting I guess. Thank you!

A quick glance at Sig Academy website shows little glove wearing, none in the civilian classes. If it's a requirement, it would seem only for the professional level courses. I've trained with and without. Gloves are awkward, but banging knuckles a few times on door frames show the usefulness. Not needed for civilian training.

Their MSR course I think indicated gloves were optional. It sent me down the rabbit hole wondering why gloves would be useful. I believe for IDPA, USPSA, and F Class types of shooting gloves will not be needed based on what I seeing here. THANK YOU!

ditto PIG Full Dexterity Tactical (FDT) Alpha Gloves

i hate wearing gloves, but i can shoot pistol with these and train with them as least occasionally because i believe protecting your hands is a priority in any sort of emergency or natural disaster situation. you can't help anyone or yourself if you don't have full use of your hands.

i did wear them to shoot the rifle a few weeks ago because it was freezing and windy.

Try purpose designed Rogers Shooting Gloves, they have a NSN# and authorized by all current teams for training and use.
I have hard use worn out many a pair over the years.

You don't need them for shooting. You need them for banging on doorways, window sills, running along cinder block walls, grabbing a chain link fence, all the stuff that's not shooting, but you might be doing with a gun in your hand. Nice day at the range, or even a exciting competition, not needed at all.

And you're right, it completely changes the tactile feel of your firearm, so if you might think you might wear them, you really should practice a little with them.

Call me ignorant or old fashion, but why do you need gloves to shoot a firearm? It's can't give you the same tactile feel as you bare finger/hand.
you don't, but in the aftermath of the "big one", when you are digging your family or friends from the rubble, you probably want to protect your hands and at the same time, be able to use your firearms with some proficiency.

Outdoor Research makes a variety of tactical gloves that are smartly made, have good dexterity & last.

The Coldshot gloves run about a size small, but the rest are true to size.

....why not have the clarity of mind to discern between gloves that are handy for snow shoveling & snowmobiling v. shooting a firearm...we have reading glasses, sun glasses, safety glasses....if you need kevlar gloves to pick thru the hot debris then wear them. Citations for firearm designed gloves would be welcomed.
