Anyone running a 108eldm in a 16.5” barrel? I’m wondering what kind of velocity I could expect.

I’m getting 2930fps from a 103eldx in my 20” barrel but thinking about going shorter.

What’s your load for that 103eldx? That’s moving for a 20” barrel. I’m about to install my 20” barrel soon hopefully but will be running 109s. Hoping for 2800ish

I had to run earlier, but was going to ask the same question about the load cause it sounds pretty fast for a 20"?!?

I’m using 34.6gr Varget with a CCI450. It’s literally the middle of the load range for the 103 with Varget according to the Hodgdon online data.

I started with 100 rounds of Hornady match ammo to break-in the barrel and shoot some coyotes then I picked up a set of dies. It’s the first load I tried and it put the first 10 shots into one hole at 100 yards. The barrel has 130 rounds on it at this point. Actual average velocity over the last 30 rounds is 2925fps using my Garmin.

It’s definitely on the fast side as far as barrels. I was hoping for 2850ish so I was surprised to be that much faster.

I only had a partial box of the eldx that I loaded to get started while waiting on the 108eldm to arrive. I figured the load data would be pretty close and the velocities as well but that isn't the case. Naturally I would expect the heavier bullet to give up some initial velocity but, based on the info from Hodgdon, it seems the 108eldm is gonna be quite a bit slower.

Maybe someone could shed some light on why the starting/max loads for Varget are so different for these two bullets. Here is the info from the data center: 103eldx (starting 32.7gr, max 36.6gr) and the 108eldm (starting 29.8gr, max 33.1gr).

What is everyone else seeing in their rifles?

108 Berger elite hunters were 2750 with 38.0 grains of H4350 and 2720 with 34.5 grains of Varget. That’s out of a 16.5” proof barrel
