Some calibers benefit from longer barrels. Some don't.

There is a huge difference between lopping 6" off of a 26" .308 and a .260.

Do you reload Jerkface?

Re: short barrel reaching 1000k

I must say that I am a member of the short barrel fan club. Not only are the rifles more handy, but I get all the performance I need. Here is my latest project. A short action, 20 inch barrel, 284 capable of 1700+yard shots. I was slammin a 1.5 moa steel plate at 1500 yards last weekend in some varying winds no problem. It is pushing the 162 A-max's at 2800 fps no problem.

Short barrels rule!

Re: short barrel reaching 1000k

I'm with you Kyle! Short barrels rule! I was just telling Iggy about this little gem:

22" 300WM shooting 208's @ 2870. Have shot repeatedly from a mile to 2000 yds. with very good accuracy and precision. Max. distance to date is 2300 yds. with around 1 moa. Hits with authority at 1500 yds. and pokes holes in 1/2" steel at 6-700 yds. Who needs a long barrel?

Now... having said all that, I'm currently building a 26" .260, 'cuz like I mentioned... the .260 loses a lot more from a shorter barrel than some other calibers.

I love this cheekrest. (shameless plug!) Solid as a rock.

(Didn't have a photo of it *and* the short barrel.

A friend of mine has a 30" .308 I have a 30" .260 we will run the same load as you and outrun you every time.

Why yes I do. Unless you're shooting a weaker load in the long barrel it will be faster. That is unless you've gone with a stupidly long barrel.
