Already have a DBAL-D2 for LR, but want something for short-range on a shorty AR for plinking in backyard. Don't want to spend north of $500 if I can help it. Was thinking a TOR-mini and a small IR flashlight. Thoughts? Seems like all the compact IR light/laser combos are north of $1k.
Not well versed in this stuff, so am hoping maybe there's something out there aside from the big players I may have missed? Thanks

Go with your gut. TOR + Vampire would be perfect.

    I love mine.

No experience with it, but the Holosun LS117-IR is priced around $280. Horta knows what he is talking about though so the TOR is probably the better option.

I think I’m about to pick up a Streamlight TLR VIR II. I’m in the same boat that I don’t want to drop a lot of money on one and I like having a IR and white light in one.

My only hesitation is the Illuminator. Been reading reviews that it will probably work for 75 yards, maybe stretch to 100. Honestly that’s about all I need for hogs.

Anyone know if Streamlight makes an IR head for their flashlights like Modlight does? I already have a Streamlight on my rifle. Would be nice just to put an IR head on it!

Another cheaper streamlight option is the tlr eye safe version. It doesnt have a white light but the laser is great and on a hunt the other night I could see the Illuminator out past 300 yards on the wood line. Inside 200 it does a good job.

Also take a look at the tlr2 eye safe from streamlight. Has some positives and negatives vrs the vir2. No white light but is selectable between light laser or both. Biggest upside is its supposed to accept the standard tailcap for streamlight remote switches but I have not tried it yet. Got ours for 270$ each on ebay. Have messed around with them on pistols and seems to work fine but no idea if they'll hold zero on a rifle.

Eta Didn't read the last post but yeah what that guy said.

I use a tor mini and a m640v surefire. The laser is plenty of power to 300 yds. The surefire light is an easy 100yd light.

I was all about finding a fp mfal, but this super budget setup is awesome for what it is. And no fear of blinding yourself.

Surefire X400V is in stock at $750 on Amazon. The piggy-backed laser sits pretty far from the bore, and blocks the sight picture a bit when mounted on the top rail. It's decent on a low 45-degree offset mount at 10:30 or 2:30. The illuminator throw is just okay, but the laser is easily visible to about 200 meters.

The crossbolt is apparently a little fragile - Surefire warns to tighten it only finger-tight.
