Shortest barrel length for AR pistol.

I’ve come around to the idea that 10” is as short as you want to go with 5.56mm. If you need to go shorter then use .300blk.
10.3, 0.070-0.075" gas port Standard buffer spring, H2 buffer.
Like mention 10.5,11.5, or 12.5. Do not go anything less then that.
Personally my AR type rifles stay around the 11-11.5 mark due to them staying suppressed.

If my memory serves me the minimum recommendation for suppressed without voiding the warranty is 10".
I run a 11.3” Wilson combat barrel on my SBR. Runs like a top suppressed/unsuppressed with an adjustable gas block.
I have a 7.5" 5.56 range toy from battle arms. It has been 100% reliable unsuppressed and suppressed (sandman k).
I wouldn't really recommend going under 10.3" unless it's strictly a range toy.

For 556, 10.3-10.5. between my mk18 and my 11.5 Geissele, I enjoy shooting my 11.5 suppressed over the 10.3.
I agree with everyone above, ~10" seems to be the sweet spot. I've got a PWS that's 7.5" I believe and its straight up obnoxious without a can on it...still runs fine but you get blinded by the ball of fire coming out the end.
It depends on the Can. Many of the good ones do not have a minimum barrel lenght for 5.56.
That being said, 10.3 is about as short as I would go for a 5.56 gun.
I agree with this. I've had them all but 11.5 is the answer for fewer problems and less wear and tear. i have a 10.5" i wont take apart because it shoots so well with the criterion barrel, but if the SHTF I'd grab my 11.5 LMT. If you really want to go super short SLR has it figured out. i have a 5" 300 blk from them that runs with everything

Had a 7.5 inch 7.62x39 that was 100% reliable after tuned correctly. Never canned it, cause it was a fire breathing dragon. Didn’t trust it with any can

I just built a 7 1/2 and an AR with 5 in barrel work beautiful the 5 has a 1 an 5 twist RH button rifeling and shoots amazing
I love my 7 I put a spikes barking Spyder on it No flame percussion verry barrable just a poof of smoke ..Great all around
I just put this on together today. and am trying the new 3 inch shorty system instead of the buffer......55 grain is lightest so far my 7 it likes 55 to 60s range really well
the round I got to shoot with the 1:5 at 25 yards was dead on in an inch circle just cant figure this system out....
thinking may just have to go back to a regular buffer and tube with this one but have seen people have great results with the 3 in. shorty system
