I finally made it to the range on Saturday, and got a little bit of trigger time on my CZ-452 varmint. Its my first gun with a scope (a leopold 3-9)I must say, it is a beautiful well crafted gun, and everything just felt right with it. I only got about 20 minutes to shoot before they were closing (we spent about 1 hour at the skeet range before moving to the rifle range), so all I did was sight the scope in, but I'm in love.

I'll be sure to go back in a week or two and bring a bunch of ammo, so I can see what ammo brand works best, but this is definitely going on my "I will never sell list", which as of now only has one other gun on it, a S&W revolver from 1983, so that's saying something.

Now for the bad news. I think I am starting to love precision shooting. I may need to ask my boss for a pay raise.

Re: Shot my CZ-452 varmit for the first time this week

The CZs are easy to love, aren't they? My 452 Trainer also occupies a spot on my "never sell" list.

I hope your Varmint model is as non-finicky as my ZKM...it groups well with most anything and spectacularly (under MOA) with ammo it likes. Try some Federal 711b. I've gotten 100 yard groups hovering around 3/4" (with some teasers closer to 1/2"). For small game, I use either Winchester Power Points or CCI Velocitors. They both shoot around an inch at 100, so I can head-shoot prairie poodles at 150 yards.

My rifle only wears a 2-7x32 and I'm not a particularly skilled shooter, but the CZ makes me feel like a real marksman.

Re: Shot my CZ-452 varmit for the first time this week

Good times! CZ's are great, i love my 452 American. look into a Brooks Trigger kit or something similar for cheap and do an ammo test to see what she likes to eat and you'll be even more in love. a good place to start is usually CCI Standard Velocity, SK Standard Plus, and Wolf Match Target, as well as some cheaper stuff for comparison. And i feel you on the need for a pay raise!

Re: Shot my CZ-452 varmit for the first time this week

Never Say Never. Something Always comes along that you just have to have or is better. I have a CZ 453 and love it. Try some CCI Blazer for Practice,You'll be amazed how good it shoots and when you get serious try Wolf Match Extra and you will like how it performs also. Good Luck and Congratulations on your Purchase, I'm sure you will love it.

Re: Shot my CZ-452 varmit for the first time this week

I bought 10 different types of ammo today, mostly variations of Remington and Winchester, with some federal and CCI thrown in. It represents what is available where I live, so I'm going to borrow a gun sled from a friend and shoot them all, and see which one groups the best. I should be going out next sunday. I'll be sure to take pics.

I was looking into a rifle basix trigger, but I'll look into other options as well. The trigger is actually pretty good. Either way, I'll put 1000 round downrange before I mod anything.

Re: Shot my CZ-452 varmit for the first time this week

i respect the fact that you want to shoot the rifle a lot before you upgrade, but the trigger is so easy to do with a basic shim and spring kit and makes a substantial difference for only a few bucks.

as for the ammo test, i would recommend trying some sort of standard velocity load such as Wolf or CCI standard, or subsonic anything. usually these slower loads produce the best accuracy. if you want to go with something else for your "go-to" load thats fine, but i'd say you have to at least try these out in your rimfire, they have the potential for amazing groups! have fun!

Re: Shot my CZ-452 varmit for the first time this week

Of the 10 rounds I have, at least 2-3 are subsonic. I do know that traveling at transonic speeds can affect stability.

And my go to round is 5.56 mm (or 12 gauge), so I'm not too worried about leathility, but it never hurts.

I will take the rifle apart this week and adjust the stock spring. Anything I buy probably won't arrive in time for next week anyway.

What spring and shim kit do you recommend? Somebody else recommended Brooks Trigger kit, but his website appears to be down.

The only brand I have heard of is rifle basix, and I don't mind paying more if it gets me a better result, but if a spring and shim is just as good, I don't have a problem saving some money (that will be put towards my first real precision rifle, probably a rem. 700)

I LOVE my 453. it is fun to shoot the numbers off the targets and leave the big orange spot for somebody else to shoot at

I took my CZ out to the range again today. Here is a pic of the gun, since everybody wanted to see it.

Here is a group I shot today at 50 yards.

Ignore the fliers. I had to sight my scope in, and that's what those are from.

I do have a question for you all. I had to move my scope up further today, to make it more comfortable. On everybody elses gun the scope seems further back. I'm wondering if my form is off, which is why I feel the need to mount it so far forward. I forgot my 'in the ear' hearing protection, but I had some bulky 'over the ear' set of earmuffs, so I think that threw off my form a little bit. When I got back home, without any hearing protection, I did feel like the scope could be moved back a bit, but not a lot.

Re: Shot my CZ-452 varmit for the first time this week

I recomend to you the "YoDave's Kit" you can find it at rimfirecetral or e-bay. It is the most popular at the moment among Cz owners.

Next week im also getting a CZ 452 Varmint. It will become in my first bolt action .22LR trainer rifle. Im going to install a 4-16x50 Leapers scope and a 6-9 bipod.

I cannot recognize those scope rings. What are they? I bought a Millet high profile scope rings for my CZ.

Do you employed any brake in process to make your first shots? Some peolple recommend to clean the barrel after each shot in the first 20 rounds, and later every 5 shots for 30 extra rounds.

Greetings from Argentina

Re: Shot my CZ-452 varmit for the first time this week

Set the scope to where it is comfortable for you. Don't worry about where others are positioned. Make sure it is comfortable for you. Make sure to set the parallex correctly also. Try some Blazers out of your weapon. You'll get some flyers but for the most part they shoot extremely accurate out of my 453 and cost alot less than the match ammo. Nice Looking Rig.

Re: Shot my CZ-452 varmit for the first time this week

I bought the gun used, and the rings came with the gun.

I don't know who made the rings, and I didn't break it in since it had already been fired.

I already ordered a yodave trigger kit. Hopefully it will arrive this week, so I can install it and give an update.

Re: Shot my CZ-452 varmit for the first time this week

CZs are addictive I bought a Trainer and liked it, then an American in 22 mag, then a 527 Lux in 223, then a 75B in 9mm, then a 527 Varmint in 22, then a 22 lr Kadet kit for the 75B next is a Full Stock in undecided. Betcha can't buy just one.
