I looked at Triad's website and the Eagle website for a good high quality full sized shotgun soft case. Does anyone make a high quality (think Eagle Industries) full sized shotgun case?
What do you mean "full size" (in terms of barrel length or OAL and pistol grip or not)?
Blackhawk, Eagle and others all make great "tactical" shotgun cases for guns with barrels up to around 22" or less, but I think a different thought about "full size" being more like a 26-30" barreled skeet/sporting clays/etc. gun.
Dad has a Benelli SBE with a 30" barrel and is looking for a much higher quality soft case. The drag bags are a bit much but I thought that if Eagle or ??? made a long gun case it may work. I will show him the Blackhawk 51" long gun case but I know he is not keen on black.
Does Blackhawk do custom colors, if so who is the Triad Tactical of the Blackhawk world?
I have been looking on-line and the options seem thin.
Blackhawk, to my knowledge, only does black on their cases (however I think they have done some in coyote/DE in the past if you look used or NOS).
Unless your Dad just wants a "tacticool" case for his SBE, I would look at some of the nice sporting shotgun offerings from Boyt, Bob Allen, etc. Also, Benelli has some really nice, high quality soft shotgun cases if he would be interested in a "matching" case for his gun. Try Cabelas (online or in store if you are local to one) and see what you can find...here is one I found just with a quick Google search:
You also should look at Midway USA under soft gun cases for unscoped rifles/shotguns as they offer dozens of different makes/models in all different price ranges.
We looked at the local Cabelas. He likes my Eagle discrete carry case for an AR and Eagle drag bag for the quality of the product plus it would have room to carry a box or two of shells and choke tube and wrench. He was thinking of commandeering one of my Eagle DB and removing most of the "extras" with apocket knife if necessary
I am looking out of self preservation for my DB
Any cheaper 52" DB's out there that could use some trimming or does anyone custom make a DB (leave off the straps, hood, half the pockets, etc)?
Guess he could drop $250 for an Eagle DB and cut up his own
The 52" is the tough part. Even the "cheaper" solutions like the MidwayUSA DB, Condor, etc. are 50" or shorter.
The only less expensive option for a 52" that I'm aware of would be the Tac-Force Stryker bags which are 52" and run around $150. Mike at CS Tactical may have them in stock...its worth a try.
My brother and I both have Avery floating cases for our duck guns. We've beat the hell out of them with no problems. If it matters, they DO float with the gun inside (we tried it). http://www.mackspw.com/Item--i-AVE0052S
