Have the opportunity to buy a sig SP 2022 like new for $450, but I'm thinking that is not a very good deal to jump on. Am I wrong.

I'm thinking that a new M&P, or a new XD 5.25 is in my future, but if that was a smoking deal I would take it. Haven't had much experience with a Sig.

That seems to be about what they sell for, and is in my opinion still a great price for what you get. The only Sig I'd stay away from is the .22 caliber Mosquito, which is just an embarrassment to the brand.

Here in CA, I see them offered for $350 to $450. That's used, with two mags. The lower prices are with contrast sights, the higher prices are with night sights.

Its already been said but here's one more vote for the M&P if you're interested in a tupperware (and there's nothing wrong with polymer frame, BTW.) I like the metal-frame Sigs but their tupperwares not so much; I think there are far better options. As far as price I'm seeing the SP2022 for $399 in NEOh on a pretty regular basis. M&P 9 or .40 for $459.00. Edit - just to clarify: those are NIB prices I'm quoting so, no, $450.00 would not be a very good deal for a <span style="font-style: italic">used</span> SP2022!
If you want a Sig I strongly agree with the recommendation for the 229; I really enjoy my .357Sig P229; of course a P226 would also be a good choice if you wanted the larger frame. Otherwise M&P or, as much as I hate to say it, Glock

I love my p229 elite dark in 9mm. I want to get the same gun is 357 sig at some point. I do not have much experience with their plastic models.
If i were to get a poly gun it would have to be the xdm. They are very easy to shoot, extremely reliable and springfield cs is best in the industry. Glock is on the very bottom of my list - they are just not very comfortable to shoot and i feel like the frame is going to explode into a million little pieces every time i shoot one.
The frame flexes so much in glocks it feels like i don't maintain the same grip through multiple shots.

I told him I would give him $300 Bucks. Not really wanting a new pistol but if he takes 300 bucks then what the hell. I have spent more on less before.

The p2022 is a VERY solid pistol. And very accurate. a lot of the guys on sigforums.com love them.

I own a Sig 2022 and it is very accurate. I also own a 229,226 and 220. They feel better in the hand than the 2022, but are not any more accurate. 2022 good for the price. And they as reliable as any other polymer framed pistol.

I had one in 9mm. I much prefer the hammer-fired DA/SA over the striker-fired designs. The SA trigger pull is just sweeettt. Never had a single malfunction with the pistol, and it ate anything. Also balanced in the hand nicely for a poly-framed pistol. Paid $400 new.

I have the polymer framed 2340 and am so glad that I bought it. It's a great shooter for the price I paid. It eats everything I feed it, has an excellent trigger pull, and is really accurate. I'm definitely a fan of the Sig polymer line.

I got the 9mm 2022 and liked it enough to get the .40 also. Felt recoil difference between the 2 is minimal, very good and consistent triggers.

I find SIGs are engineered to fit my hand and hand-eye coordination better than any other modern pistol. I've tried MANY HKs, S&Ws, CZs, Berettas, KAHRs and more, and find the SIG line of pistols (P220, 226, 229, 232, 239) I've shot and owned just work for me, but they might not work for you.
I have my students (I'm a certified pistol/personal protection trainer, 12 years now, maybe a 100 students) close their eyes, grip the pistol and bring it up to their natural point of aim/sight picture and have found this can help sort out "what works" for a lot of people. A little shuffling of the feet, hunching of the shoulders, relaxing the forearms can make major differences in where and how the sights line up. Try it sometime. For me, SIGs come up in line of sight first time every time.
