Should I go magnum?

I have an Aero Solus action and I have have both standard and magnum bolts heads. I currently shoot 308 6 and 6.5 creed.

I have access to a range to 1700 yards.

Give the fact that a lot of the reloader powders are unobtainable almost and the limited ability to load long heavy bc bullets (mag feed preferred)

Should I venture into a 7 Saum or 6.5 prc in a short action

Or

Sell the bolt face and just get a long action?

Uses hunting and long range

You're call, but I'm in the "sell the SA bolt head, and order a Solus LA magnum action" and build a 7 PRC on it. That's what I plan on doing when I get ready to build my 7 PRC.

Keep your SA Solus you already have, and use it just for your .308/6/6.5cm like you have been.

Also, you can find Winchester StaBall HD, which is a great magnum powder.

I haven't had a problem with finding bullets or appropriate powder for magnums. Just started working with Ramshot Grand. In very early testing now with Grand in 300 Norma it appears to be similar to H-1000.

Do the 6.5 PRC. I have one and love it…..

I can’t say this crack habit of yours, is really doing much for your personality.

What I will say is, …… I always tell people find somebody who’s handle is “fuck you” and take that persons advice. Every single time.

They’re obviously very intelligent. 😳

Facts are a bitch sometimes... If you're handloading hot, you can expect that to be closer to the 1,000, than the 1,500 mark...

If you like buying barrels every 1,000 rounds just to only gain 150 FPS over a 6.5CM, go for it. 😂
I feel the same way about the 6.5 PRC. That's why I had a 6.5/7 PRC built. It runs 147's at 3100 fps. If I get 800 rounds out of it I'll be happy. I have a extra barrel on stand by when the first one is burned out. Barrels are consumables.

Go big or go home. If you’re gonna have a barrel burner, might as well also have the speed, while it lasts.

Short action = .300 WSM. Maybe a 7/6.5 PRC if ya don't mind a wildcat.

Long= .338 Lapua

Shooting a mile can be fun, or frustrating.
Consider your conditions- private or public range? Can you set up a camera? Hit indicators on steel?

You need to be able to spot your impacts- if you can't you may as well save the ammo.
Magnums = energy= better ability to spot impacts.

6.5prc is about the biggest "magnum" that works in a short action. Sure, there is 300wsm and 7rsaum, but they turn into single feed or eat up case capacity(mag fed) with the interesting bc bullets. 3000+ is doable with 147gr and 6.5prc, leaning on it a little. It will have similar life as a 6.5-284 f class gun but it works in a short action better.
