ok i want you guys to give me your opinion on this, these groups are out of my aac-sd at 100yd the only excuse i have for the spread is the fact that my reticle of the ss 10x completely covers the orange dot at 100,but i plan on fixing that in the next month or so with a razor hd and new hardware. but my question to you guys is should i get it re-barreld,trued and a bigger recoil lug or shoot it until i wear out the barrel, also would it be worth pulling the barrel just for an aftermarket recoil lug.

How much better do you want than that?? No on the recoil lug, and shoot that barrel for a very long time before you spend your cash for the same results.

your headspace won't be right with an after market lug ... you would need to recut your barrel threads, which means you might as well do the whole rebarrel/truing job. with the results you have on your rifle, that's not worth it. spend the money instead on tuning up the trigger or getting a timney set to a pull weight you like. perhaps a nice triad stock pack and oversize bolt knob would make the rifle a little more comfortable to shoot.

No idea your level of shooting experience so I am assuming you are new to the precision side of the house. Shoot the barrel out while you learn the craft, and don't worry about all the customizations and accurizing work. Just learn the basics, and along the way you will learn what modifications you truly need to gain accuracy and which ones will just cause you to piss away money needlessly.

Great posts guys, I am pretty new to the long range precission game, this is the first rifle I have built specifically for lr. I will start to look into some aftermarket triggers, currently I am running the x mark internally adjusted to about 1 1/2lb but maybe a better trigger and the new glass can help me tighten up those groups. So far to date .595 is the best 100yd group I have shot and 780yd is my farthest hit I have made with the rifle.

your groups suck...you need to learn breathing, heart rate, sear release being a surprise...maybe reloading? Ok, not really...just giving you excuses to hit the range, good shooting.

X-hairs/dot an issue, learn what a 6 o'clock hold is and the dot won't be an issue.

Edit...shoot the barrel out.

is that factory or reloads?

It's reload's 43gr r15 w/175smk. I have not refined it down to tenths of a grain yet but so far it is the best load I have found.

I say shoot it. I might add that you could also bed the action with some devcon putty (there has been some excellent write ups on here and on the web about bedding an action for a DIY kind of guy) and swap your trigger spring with one from this guy. http://erniethegunsmith.com/catalog/c1_p1.html
I have bought a couple replacement springs for various rifles and $6 is better than $90 and the remington trigger is pretty adjustable as is.
Just from doing those two things alone might help to shave a little off your group size and for a grand total of maybe $40.

If you're asking if you should true it up, then you can afford it. I say do it and have the confidence that your rifle is completely built. I had to do my Sendero even though it shot .457" groups just because it wasn't trued and rebarreled and I didn't want to wonder if flyers were due to an inconsistent rifle.

If you can afford it and it helps your confidence in long shots them do it. Otherwise roll with what you have. Just my two cents.

I don't really want to bed it, that was my reason for going with the manners t4a w/mini chassis. But I will check out the springs.

Try this exercise.

Get a blank target face, get some sticky dots (1" is good). What you'll do is put 4 dots on the paper spaced a few inches apart- in line is generally easier.

from that set of dots you'll adjust your scope so that you're not aiming at those dots...have a sighter dot. I like the 6 o'clock hold because the x-hair doesn't get covered up...I just set my target on top of my x-hair.

As you shoot from dot to dot...just adjust your scope.

see if you're groups shrink. To me it seems like the group stringing is due to anything from wind, loads or heartbeat but from what you say about the reticle, if it's interfering at all it's a good bet your groups will shrink if you could limit the reticle issue.
