Trying to get some ideas to make a cheek pad to put on my rifle. It's a remington 700 xcr tactical long range with a Vortex PST 6-24x50mm. I really don't want to drill holes in the stock, I would rather find somthing that maybe velcro's on, or goes on under some type of cloth/spandex sleeve. All pics and ideas are appreciated.

bjordan,

I use Frost King Self Seal Pipe Insulation over the comb. It comes in 1/2", 3/4" or 1" thicknesses in 6' lengths. Like this:

I cut a 6" section and wrap over the comb, and cover it with a $10. Uncle Mikes Elastic Ammo holder, like this:

I used 1/2" Pipe insulation under the Uncle Mikes on my McMillan HTG comb to get the proper height.

Re: Show me your DIY cheek piece/pads/rests

Best way is the method described above: closed-cell sissy pad or pipe insulation over the top of the comb, wrapped in duct or "100mph" tape, with an Eagle pack on top of that.

I actually cut open/re-sewed the Eagle and put a pad in there so that the taped portion on the gun still allows me to see straight down the bore (and clean it).

It feels like an adjustable A5 comb, but is waaaaay more comfortable. Oh, and it's bomber, too.

Mouse pads work well too. I picked up an imitation Eagle stock pack at my local sporting goods store for $12.00 back when they were sold out of the Eagle's everywhere.

Wow, I like this one, what kind of "block" is that... meaning where did you find a piece of foam shaped in that fashion? I fail at reading.... I read on the description this is a block of wood....

(Other than the block is made of wood) I think this would be almost exactly what I'm looking to do.

First time to post a pic sry if it doesn't wrk.

Its just a piece of aluminum sheet bent to contour of the hs with some rubber padding for a little comfort. Not perfect and not the prettiest but its way better than it was..

Doesn't the aluminum get hot if the rifle is out at the range uncovered for very long?

Looks like you cut and formed the aluminum well, I just can't imagine laying my face against a piece of hot metal and trying to make well placed shots?

Re: Show me your DIY cheek piece/pads/rests

The rubber padding material I glued onto the aluminum doesn't seem like it ever gets any warmer than the stock does/did. Sweat makes it alittle slick though so im keeping my eyes open for some material to cover the padding with.

2,5 mm Kydex, a bit of spare time and some hand tools.

When I faishoned it using hot water, I made it so it has a slight off side, enableing me to center along the line of the barrel easier.

No offense, but aesthetically, that is an ABORTION!!

That is awesome, and the most unique and classy cheek pad I've seen. Is that a GAP Crusader?

i like i like, i reckon it would look beautiful on a wooden stock hunting rifle.. you got any spare laying around you want to sell?

Re: Show me your DIY cheek piece/pads/rests

i use the uncle mike's ammo holder with a mouse pad and a piece of doweling. The doweling is to allow a taller hight without making the sides wider which pushes my face off centre.

Down side the ammo holder when used with a bean bag or rear bag will start crawling up the stock (H&S stock) during recoil.
