Show off your your precision M14/M1A type rifles

I got this idea from the awesome GAP10 thread. So let’s see your precision M14/M1A type rifles. Here is mine in its various forms. Right now it is sitting in a SAGE M39 stock. The receiver is a LRB and the rest of the components are TRW including the barrel. The barrel’s chamber has been reamed for the 175 SMK. As all other rifles it matters less the makeup of components but who assembled it. This one was built by Smith Enterprise. When I do my part it is an easy .75 moa gun. It will serve well as an alternate for my soon to arrive GAP M40a5.

I really miss it in the wood stock, but the accuracy bug got to me, might put it back in this stock when I get the M40A5.

This is how it shot at 100yds in the wood non-bedded stock, no too bad!


It was down hill after I mounted my first scope for it, since then it has been a never ending experiment to see how far and accurate I can make it.

Here's my M21. It's a fine weapon and I've achieved sub MOA at 200 yards (done it repeatedly) and MOA out to 300 yards. The farthest I've shot it so far.
In my hands though, its pretty much a consistent 1.5MOA rifle.

And I sure wouldn't call it a precision M1A, but my SOCOM 16 sure is a blast to shoot.

Far from a precision rig but it is my only M1A/M14 offering for now. Eventually it will get a basset mount and I will add a fulton, lrb, smith, etc. M14 or 21 to my collection.
Hey usmc1488 how about some details on that BAR? I would love to add one beside my Thompson and 1911A1.

Thanks! It's funny some times the best pictures are the ones that took the least effort. I took that pic after a day of shooting with my cell phone. I couldn't recreate that if I tried!

The BAR is a semi auto Ohio Ordnance with all royal type writer parts and WWII barrel. I couldn't justify the required 20000, well I could but it'd be the only weapon that I owned. I'm trying to track down a BM59 for my entry into the class iii world. One day I'll have a BAR FA!

Got this puppy in 1977, four digit serial number 0068XX, paid $295 for it new. I bought it from Wayne Young, the USAMU armor who was sent to Vietnam with the first AMU Sniper teams.

Started shooting for the Guard and at the NG expense it was converted to a Super Match by none other then Gene Barnett (Barnett Barrels) who was an All Guard Armor at the time.

It got me my Dist. Rifle badge, I shot my best 1000 yard scores with it. It still shoots today, but I've had to replace a couple shot out barrels and stretched out slings.

I am NO M14 fan. However, your current set up, including optic, seems to make a lot of sense. How far into it are you($wise)?

It is a great set up, when it was still in it's wood stock I shot it at the Long Distance Range in Pala Cali and it easily reached the far 880+ targets with 175smk. The buil wasnt cheap but quality never is.

LRB Receiver = $850

All TRW USGI parts (Op Rod, Trigger Group and internals, Barrel and etc) = $1000

SEi Build including chamber reamed for 175smk = $350

Sage M39 Chassis = $750

Sage Cantiliver Mount = $250

Leupold MK6 and Leupold 34MM rings = $2100 (I meet the requirement for the LE/ME discount but I wont divulge the details, best in the industry)

=$5300 all worth it, plus you cant put a price on love!

I'm NOT going to show you mine. I FELL for that, with a girl, in 6th grade. She shoots 3 in groups, at 100. "Match M1A". That's OK. I still love her, cause she's a nice gun! Won't leave her. Won't sell her. She's lighter, than the "mag guns", and forgiving. More than I can say, about most "women".

Here is my new addition to the thread. My M14 EBR-RI as the US Army SHOULD have bought it. Authentic down to the last detail save for the color of the stock and the scope. All Winchester which is what the Rock Island crew preferred to build on. 3/4 MOA shooter which is simply wonderful. The Sage stock truly does increase the accuracy of the weapon. This weapon is proof of that since I have DOPE on this in other configurations.

Why the Army insists on black weapons when FDE or brown anodizing is readily available stupefies me. Tests have proved that black weapons actually stand out in the dark especially when using night vision when FDE nearly fades into the background. No comments about the Army's acceptance of the M110 SASS which is FDE. I understand that the powers that be in the acquisition process said that was a mistake. The new Remington XM2010/M24E1 is another prime example of this thinking as this rifle was acquired in black when Remington's MSR comes in FDE.

Also this M14 EBR-RI shoots every bit as good if not better than the M110 and for a mere fraction of the total cost of the M110 system. Took the Rock Island crew approximately 20 some odd minutes to convert a rack grade M14 to the EBR for less than a couple thousand dollars each.

Nice system there eodsix. You mentioned your dope. I would be curious what your drop is to say.. 500-1k or more. Hand loads or factory?

Using M852 ammo, the DOPE is very close to published DOPE for 168gr SMK at 2550 FPS. I haven't had it out past 300m yet in this configuration, just haven't had the time. My range is 1100 meters but there's cattle on it right now.

Modernized, scoped M1A's are pretty cool but nostalgia was a large part of why I bought one in the first place so I went back to wood and iron sights and I haven't regretted it. I find scoring hits at a distance with an iron sighted M1A to be rather satisfying.

In keeping with the precision theme, here's me with an issued USMC M39 EMR topped with a M8541 in Afghanistan. Issued to another guy in my platoon unfortunately. I was stuck with the good ole M16A4 and ACOG.

Old School hurts so much it must be fun high power gun.

Pretty much a normal CM barreled NM gun, but I like the shit out of it, and it runs every time I pull the trigger.

Not really precision, but I have fun with it at 600, and occasionally on the 1K line, but just to see if I can.

That's a Busse Satin Finish "Heavy Heart Fusion Steel Heart" otherwise known as a HH FSH.
Its got a sabre grind and, to my eyes, maybe the most beautiful Busse knife ever made.

Sheath is made by Chuddy Bear and is a work of art in itself.

M21, tweeked it myself, shot this group in JaimieD's long range shooting school. Little less than 0.5", 6 shot group at 100 yards for zero. Includes cold bore shot, (top hole). I have a new build that Ted Brown just completed, LRB M25, all TRW with Krieger heavy contour 1/10 twist. Law 483 is currently making me a walnut heavy, pillar bedded hybrid stock. Hopefully will have it soon. Planning on mounting a Beast on it.

How did I miss these? Very nice, and great shooting! The m14 is a lot more accurate than people want to give it credit for and yours is a testimate to that.
