i have that same lathe only a craftsman. what kind of toolholder is that? i need one.

i used to have the craftsman version of that also but mine wasn't the under cabinet drive though. it was ugly but in physically good shape when i got it. i took it down to every last nut and bolt and completely restored it. i ran out of room after the restoration was done and sold it before even getting a chance to try it out.

his looks like an alloris or phaseII tool holder. i use a wedge style phaseII on my newer lathe and am happy with it. enco has some good prices on a combo with the tool post and several tool holders.

tool post/ holders at enco

Re: Show us some of your shop pics!

Mine is an Aloris, Very nice and the price reflects it, You can get one similar from Enco Tools, Just make sure you get plenty of holders, I have had problems in the past that aftermarket holders don't always have the same dovetail. You'll need at least 4, I would get 6.

Well, OK. Here is the "Man cave" along with a couple recent completions. The lathe is a Nardini TT1030E and a sweet ride. Just the right size and super accurate. Mill is an Acer 9x42 with Newall DROand Servo 150 pf. 'Stick is a Surgeon RSR with Kreiger MTU in 6.5x47L. "Tactical" style XP-100 with 16" Kreiger in 308 Win Tactical Match. SR

if you have the 12" craftsman/atlas, i believe you could use either the 100 or 200 series phaseII tool post/holders. i never used a quick change tool post on my old craftsman/atlas but i can't think of any reason either one of those wouldn't work. i think the 200 series will allow you to use larger square tools but that lathe is not exactly rigid so i am not sure that would be any big benefit. any one you get is going to require the t-nut that comes with the post be machined to fit the slot on your compound. i use the wedge type tool post because i heard they were better but i have no first hand experience with the piston type to say if that is true or not.

Re: Show us some of your shop pics!

I've used both (piston & wedge) holders.
The wedges are better suited for hogging but are more expensive.
The piston type is adequate for any type of gunsmithing you're likely to encounter. For the difference in price you could lay in a lot more holders, which (IMO) "is a good thang"

Re: Show us some of your shop pics!

Question for Bryschopper. Can you post up a better picture of your barrel fluting setup and what kind of cutter you got there.
