MJH- The last I heard they were all taken down do to some being stolen. A huge bummer since I bought a bunch of steel to hang there as well to add to the ones that use to be there.

There is no steel out there worth speaking of.... it started to disappear...

As a group..... I would like to make a suggestion.... that if you invest in steel, pick up some targets that work well with T-Posts... If you have T-post brackets, specifically with the "tail" of the "T" facing away from the target, we can utilize T-posts that stay in place (nobody steals the posts).
If everybody that shoots, has a couple of these in a pack, we can be very fluid, in our ability to put together impromptu shoots or matches...
Utilizing "T-Post Farms" in a place we shoot a lot.... or throwing down a couple new posts per shooter, at a new spot.... we can have quite a few targets in place, in a hurry...
Just food for thought... it's the method I've taken to, when running solo... a few guys, carrying relatively light loads, could get a pretty nice COF set up in a hurry..... ESPECIALLY, if there are already T-Posts plotted all over the hill-side...
For example... I've got 20 spots plotted on a map app on my phone right now... they range from 300 to 1200 yards, depending on the firing position... the steel just needs to be run and hung.... no mess, no fuss with "hanger contraptions".... I've found the 45% IPSC are reasonable enough to pack, small enough to be a challenge to shoot, and large enough, to have a point to the whole exercise, when going deep (pun intended).
I've learned through a great deal of sweat, that 4-5 targets, is about the max one guy can hump around those hills.... but three or four guys, carrying two or three each, would be a BREEEEEZE.

Well my "home" range is a long drive for you wetsiders, and I don't have a doghouse or swing built to shoot from. However, I do have a treestand, old barrels, and a couple old combines that we could shoot off of, as well as an old tire or three we could lash together and shoot thru(or put Marty in and roll down the hill). There's about 2" of fresh snow today on top of what was left over, I'm sure we could come up with some nice mud and slush to wallow around in.
Only a dozen targets to choose from...I'll work on that though.

I am in the process of getting T post brackets for all of my targets. Our youth in the welding department will be welding some up and I will have more information on a timeline when these could be done THIS FRIDAY. Standbye.

Dibbs... Those Big Dog brackets are great.... But yeah... They are not only bulky, but awkward bulky, and weigh as much as the target... I know, because I've been lugging four of them... PLUS t-posts.... T-post pounder thing... Rebar, and an extra 12" steel disc with chain hangers.... Around those damn hillsides....

Guys, I need a list of shooters ASAP for the 3-4-12 match so I can get a course of fire together.
We will have the mover up and running and will also have a few C.O.F. for the F.C. we will be running to work out any bugs.
This will be a great train up for F.C. but I must have a head count NOW.

Lightweight plate hangers, huh..........
I think I can come up with a design for that. One of the things I have been incorporating is slots on the hangers so plates can be left semi-loose, rather than having to take tools to spin nuts and bolts. This helps in making the plate swing when hit (easier to spot and easier on steel), the down side is that bolt life may suffer. I can probably get the hangers down to a couple pounds (around 2#).
I need some info though......what is the hole spacing on your targets? If I could get some different % with different hole spacings that would be great. I would like to try and make one hanger with universal hole spacing(s), and hopefully still keep it centered on the hanger.

I have a meeting with the Welding administration on thursday to present the overall idea of making a couple different versions. I will bring some out to you guys and we will see what works best!! We just need to put them through the paces and then I can have an idea of what to have out students here on Campus start producing.
It would be a great project for our students because it would be a fairly simple welding procedure.
I am excited. I think it would be great.

Semi-loose plates, no tools = ideal.... also some sort of notch in the back, that slides over the tail of the "T", to prevent is from spinning on the post... or any other way of keeping the thing facing the right direction, is a must!
I will get the measurements of the steel I have... if Jake has a standard as well, we could probably cover a lot of bases...

Have fun at the shoot next weekend guys, I'll be on a wolf hunt in Idaho... we already got one down first weekend in february! This time its my tags we're trying to fill!

Thanks guys. Here's a pic of the wolf my buddy shot a few weekends ago. This was a crazy day to say the least and we had to wade the river at chest high depths to retrieve him! Talk about COLD.... Some of you guys should recognize Al!
