Re: SHWW Group

Jim,

One more Findlay Cup question -- for those of us far enough away that "going home" Saturday night doesn't make sense -- is camping an option this year? If not, where would it make most sense geography-wise to make room reservations?

Thanks,
-Matt

Obviously I'm not Jim, as I don't need a booster seat, but to answer your question.....there will be dry camping available at both the NCW Gun Club and at the site of Sunday's portion of the match.

My suggestion......use Hotwire.com and find a hotel in Wenatchee. They're only around $50 and you'll shoot a lot better the next day if you get a good night's rest.

Hi, I'm Ben.
Absolute new guy to LR shooting. I practice with the AR platform , but have gotten the itch to start shooting a bolt action for target and hopefully some hunting in the future.
I'm here to learn, and am planning on putting together a budget gun of sorts. I hope to meet for some events you might have to get some knowhow on the fundamentals of precision shooting, as not everything can be learned from the internet. It'll also be good to meet other shooters in the area.
Oh yeah, I live in Seattle.

Re: SHWW Group

Hey Guys, I heard of a great "Mom & Pop type" reloading store just off of I-90. It's located off of exit 85 in Cle Elum. It's called <span style="color: #000099"><span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">"Three Forks Ammo & Reloading"</span></span></span> and they had some very hard to find bullets on the shelf.

Berger .338 300 grain Hybrids, Hornady 208 grain A-Max (4 boxes of 100), 144 grain 6.5mm Sierra Matchkings (a non-catalog item) and some others. I was very impressed. They also had a rather extensive supply of hard to find ammo.

John is super friendly and will order whatever you want and seems to specialize in carrying those bullets unique to long range shooting. It's a very interesting place to check out right off I-90. Good for a stretch break as a minimum. And it might just carry that ammo that you left in Seattle on your way to the match in Ellensburg.

Re: SHWW Group

Hi all,
I'm trying to get a monthly pistol event going here at the NCW Gun Club in East Wenatchee, WA (ncwgunclub.com). Since we have no funds for buying targets and supplies at the moment, I'm building this thing from the ground up and am going to have to make it pay for itself. Therefore, April 3 at 9am will be the first "match" or practice if you will. Cost will be $20 per person and all money will go towards improving the program. I'm anticipating an all steel match with at least 5 stages. Keep in mind that this is a FUN match and is not sanctioned. Likely I'll not have enough volunteers for RO's, so we'll be scoring/timing ourselves. Scoring will be time + penalties for misses to keep things simple.

Let me make this clear to everyone.....this event is to generate funds for improving the monthly pistol events as well as to see what equipment we have works and what doesn't under match conditions. If something breaks, we'll have to improvise as I doubt there will be spare targets!!! NO BITCHING allowed as this is just for FUN and for a good cause!

Thoughts?

Re: SHWW Group

I want to put in another Plug for 3 Forks Ammo, this is my hometown ammo shop and the guys down there are great! Just got back from there 2 hours ago buying a hand primer and other misc stuff. Be aware of the "guard dog" if you pet him, he will follow you around the store and keep you company.

Re: SHWW Group

Had a great day shooting today with XedgeX, Bigwheels, Kombar, Barikade.

Stretched the SPR to 930yds with my 77gr load. I think it was around 75% hits on an IPSC steel based off of audibles. Conditions at the time were mild. Great spotter info from Bigwheels.

Zeroed my AR-10T's 5.5-22x56. Just using SA surplus and had fun spamming the target at 750yds. (Rocked it pretty good considering ammo quality.)

Did some position shooting with my SPR and XM193. Good hits on IPSC at 200yds. Only used my little fastfire for that. Even made a couple of hits weakside offhand.

Checked my gen 1 M2008's modified bolt for function. Flawless ignition of BR2 primers. (Used to not work at all with BR2.)

Lots of chronograph data collected.

My 77gr SMK w/CN load is shooting right at 2810ft/s. Smokin! So rad. Using CCI SR Mag primers, PMC brass (Fat head on this brass), 24.5gr Ramshot TAC. Light taper crimp. Seems to be holding up well.

Re: SHWW Group

I had fun yesterday. Good to meet new people, & get to shoot as well.
Before the shooting I was able to get some set up work done on BSCIII. I have all the stages of fire set up on paper, & am going to make sure I have all the targets for them on hand to get 'er gone. Had some trees blow down in the upper area, but I'm just going to work around them. Will also need to make sure the trail down is still marked, & possible.
3 weeks left to get your T-Shirt order in before I place the order. So far I have 15 entries, with 6 confirmed with entry fees received.
Good Luck @ Findly Cup guys.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Practice shoot in Ellensburg on Sat. Mar 26 8:00 am</span>
Guys for those of us that didn't get into the Findlay cup, and want to shoot some steel out to 1,000 yards we will meet at the same location as always. If you have plates, bring them. I would like to set up targets at 8:00 and be shooting at 9:00.
For the new shooters, there is no facilities and no food anywhere close, so pack for the day, also bring spotting scopes and chairs.
PM me if you are interested in details, I will set up a few stages so we can run through them if there is an interest, and bring your lunch money, as there might be a chance to have a little competition. LOL
Thanks Sunnyside Scottt
For those of you that are shooting at the Findlay cup, Good luck, and I can't wait to find out who the top team is.

Re: SHWW Group

This is the opportunity I've been waiting for, I need to get data on my rifle out past 300. I'll have to leave pretty early to get over there by 8, but I'm in! I just need to know where to go, and if I need to bring anything. I have a couple of steel plates, but I don't have stands.

Re: SHWW Group

Just wanted to drop in and say hello now that I've found a Wa. State section of the Hide ! Very cool to see.
Looking forward to reading about all the events that are going on around here and see that you guys are very active which is fantastic.
Anyways Hi from Kitsap County !

Re: SHWW Group

For the shoot this weekend in Ellensburg, Hunter21 just brought it to my attention that the game warden was poking around and wanting us to have a Vehicle use permit, so if you have it, bring it with you. He didn't mention if he would write a ticket or not, but if you didn't want to buy one you could ride share into the location.
SScott

Re: SHWW Group

SScott,

Thanks for the heads up.

Hunter21, scott pm'ed me mentioning you were curious about some .260 data. I will be of any assistance that I can. Let's talk, I will share all the trials and tribuluations or lack there of I had.
Matt

Re: SHWW Group

The Game Warden didnt seem like he was interested in writing tickets but the use permit is only $12. With that said the 2010 permit expires this month so its kinda hard to shell out $12 for a permit for one day of shooting. I am sure if you got the 2011 permit that would work even though it dont kick in till next month I think.

MM509 PM returned!

Re: SHWW Group

From the shooting area across the road from the small pistol range- the 425,610, 745, 865, 975 and 1040 still stand. One of the bigger plates at 610 is only hanging by one of the hangers, so it is now a diamond. I did not go to the other spot that has plates down in the 'valley' so I do not know how they are holding up. I did repaint the 425 and 610 plates a week or two back.

Re: SHWW Group

Hey everyone, I met Big Wheels at sportsmans wharehouse a few weeks ago. So thanks Big Wheels for turning me onto the forum. I just want to say hi and itroduce myself. I live in Monroe and am a long range shooter with a lot to learn. I got into this a few years ago because of my passion for hunting. I have been shooting .30-378 Weatherby Magnum and currently have a .338 Lapua progect with Benchmark Barrels started. So I am looking forward to getting to know some of you guys.
