****T-POST BRACKET UPDATE****

Hey Guys, OK, I have some T-post brackets all made up. Please keep in mind these are prototypes and will have a better fit and finish on the final product. But all in all they turned out really well.

The plate bolts onto the front side of the bracket, and the bracket simply slides over a medium duty T-post. They are very lightweight, not bulky, and I could probably fit 8 or so in one flat rate box.

So here is what I am thinking.

I have two different designs. And I am hoping to get some feedback from you guys before I start putting these into production.

I am using 3/16" mild steel for the cross member. And the downward steel is 10 gage. Both look really good!

What I have done on the triangular bracket is custom make a piece of steel that is roughly 52.5 degrees. This makes the medium T-post a perfect fit. I really like this design.

the second design is a rectangular tubing in 10 gage steel. It is also a great fit but the T-Post has to be put into the ground slightly crooked. Kind of like a 1/4 turn to fit the inside of the tubing.

Anyway, here are some pictures. And I think some of you guys know. All of these parts are hand made by the students here on Jubilee Youth ranch. They are in our welding program and are doing a great job.

I am also wondering about price point. What do you guys think? I would sell them as blanks with no holes and would also sell them with custom hole locations.

The best part about these brackets is 100% of the profits would go back to the Jubilee youth ranch. It would be a win win for everyone. I would post them on my website and would sell them for the welding program. It would be a awesome opportunity for the students to keep welding on a very cool project.

I like the triangular bracket. The rectangular one seems like it may become loose on the T post. So i'm clear, you're saying that the rectangular bracket has to be twisted to Tightness on the T post? Does the target have a chance of becoming loose and wiggling with the wind?
I think setting a CF would be easiest with the Tri mount as you set it on and move on to the next T post.
Just my .02 cents. I'd be in for 6 of the Tri mounts. Are you going to offer different lengths in the L bracket for odd target sizes?

I do have a suggestion/thought from the peanut gallery though. Fence posts/T-posts come in a little different sizes, ie they have light/medium/heavy grades, and the size of the T is slightly different on each.

Appreciate your efforts...and if you would like me to test some out, attach several to a ISPC targets and send them this direction.

Both brackets are very solid after sliding over the t-post. Not a bunch of wiggle in either of them. After hit they return back to center as well.

I shoot both the rectangle and triangle brackets 50 times each yesterday. I hit them all over the plate seeing what would happen. I put ten rounds on each side of the plate and 30 more rounds at random. All shots were taken at 50 yards with my 308. Brackets worked great.

What is goofy about the rectangle design is the T post actually has to be driven into the ground twisted a little bit awkwardly. Were the triangle T post, all you do it point the T away from the shooter and it lines up perfect every time.

What about a price point???? I am still trying to figure that out. What do you guys think would be a good deal but still fair?

The holes will be an option. I am going to make brackets of all different lengths. I am thinking to start, 6,9, and 12 inch lengths. So you could shoot anything that has hole spacing under about 11 inches C to C and be perfectly fine.

These T-post hangers will work with the medium duty T posts. It will not work with the light duty t post that have three equal points. One point needs to be long like the ones found on the medium duty. I looked at roughly 500 different T posts and the most common one I found (roughly 95%) is a medium duty. You can buy them at lowes or home depot for something like $5-6.

Only thing I can see, but might not be an issue, make the triangle bracket full length on the front side as well.
Price point, $15.00-$18.00.
Never mind, I looked again and the back of the target would suffice.

But the back of the target as well as the cross member hanging down 3 inches. I dont think it will ever come out of there.

An idea would be to mill or punch slots for simplicity. that way one part works for all hole spacings.

Where do you gunsmiths get those super good drill bits. I need one for 9/16". Maybe on for 17/32"

I think the slots would be tough because I still want to maintain the integrity of the unit as a whole. It I have say 4 slots per side. It is not nearly as strong. But maybe not, I guess it doesnt see any abuse anyway because the AR500 plate is in front.

I think thats a really good idea and I will look into it, the only tough thing about that is I dont see it being much more versitale. The plates and holes on the brackets really have to be precise. I have a 8 inch plate sitting here. It has a 6.25 center to center hole spacing. If I am off by just a 1/4 inch, the bolt does not go through.

Are you saying that you would not care if the plate was off centered on the bracket??? Because I would think you would want it centered. But maybe I am over thinking it.

That's the idea, so long as it would maintain durability...

If you had say 1.5" "slots" on either side of the bracket, rather than holes, the need for precise spacing would be greatly reduced... This example for instance, would give you 3" of flexibility in terms of spacing for the holes on the steel target, that you are trying to mate with said bracket... In other words, one could have plates with holes from 4" to 7" apart, and would still be good to go..... etc....

The target may walk a bit, from side to side, but I can't see that being and issue...

Sorry for the interruption, but who better to ask then the SHWW Guys.

Anyone spent any amount of time in the San Juans? Any island better than another to rent a house on for a week? There would be 4 adults and for kids from 3-9 years old. We'd rather pay a couple bucks more and be in the thick of entertainment and adventure for the family vs. saving a few bucks and having to pack up 8 people and drive to do anything.

I don't want to take this thread to off track, so PM would probably be preferred by the guys that don't care.

How about a piece of 3/16" 2 x 3 angle with the 3" leg down with oblong holes punched in it.
Your steel supplier should have access to an iron worker.

Washington's first official LR F-Class championships will be held @ Rattlesnake Mountain (just north of Tri-Cities) the weekend of June 22-24 2012.

I always found that the 6-9 was too short, and the next one up was to long. So I figured out how to shorten the longer one so it runs around 8-9 inches when collapsed. It fits me lots better for prone...the little one gets me just a bit to close to the ground.

If there is enough interest, I'll try and type up a description of how to shorten them to the height you want.

I wanted to introduce myself! I live on Whidbey Island and while I have had a Remington 700 SPS Tactical for some time, I now have the time and resources to start utilizing it.

I have been lurking here for some time and didn't want to jump in because a lot of times new people get jumped on for asking previously asked questions, in other forums. So, I have tried to glean as much much information as I can, from previous post. If I asked a question that has been talked to death, I apologize in advance, since I will try to research previous posts as much as possible before wasting time or space.

As far as shooting experience, I have not been in the military but did grow up in a Navy family. I, and my entire family, are members of Front Sight and try to go down 2 times a year, or more if work and finances allow it. Most of my experience is with handguns but I do have a working knowledge of precision rifles and can shoot 1/2 - 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards or between 1 and 2 inch groups at 200 yards. My sportsman's club only has a 200 yard range so I don't know how I would fair out past the 200 yard mark. Now give me a black rifle and I can make it sing...or so I like to think.

Currently, I am trying to improve my Remington 700 SPS Tactical and am open to suggestions. It is a .308 with 1 in 12 twist (I wish it was 1 in 10 but when I bought it, I didn't know the significance), it has a Warne 20 MOA one piece base under a Falcon Menace 4-14x44 scope with Burris Tactical Rings. I have a Bell and Carlson Medalist Tactical A5 stock on order to replace the Hogue over-molded stock that came with it. I am researching Detachable Base Systems and Marty suggested the Seekings or CDI and I will definitely take a long look at them before making an investment.

I was given an Sniper Data Book from Storm Tactical and have been logging every shot I have taken, while working up load data. Currently, I have been working up loads for Hornady 168gr AMax and Match HPBT and just got my hands on two boxes of Nosler 175gr HPBT Competition bullets. Where I live 308 168gr bullets are rare and the 175gr I bought today are the first I have seen since summer. I don't know how they will shoot with my 1 in 12 twist but I am hopeful.

As far as gear goes, I would rather buy something once than mess around trying to be cheap and end up spending twice as much in the long run.

From what I understand, my current rifle is at most a 600 yard gun (if I am wrong, please let me know) and my ultimate goal is to be able to shoot in some tactical competitions. I don't know of any except over in Wenatchee but would be open to hearing about others.

I look forward to learning and developing my long range skills and will bookmark this forum!
