Thurston County members be aware, this is an excellent article just posted in the Primer. (read the full article in the Primer)
The following is the proposed draft of the no-shooting ordinance Thurston County Commissioner Karen Valenzuela resurrected from last year's failed attempt to enact county-wide no-shooting zones in a large part of Thurston County. The county has not made this new proposed ordinance public yet so they could get it as close to a vote as possible before asking for public comment. A board of 15 members was appointed by the county to revise and increase the scope of the 2011 ordinance that died from massive public outrage. The board members were selected from the core group of people who support the egregious reforms the county has been attempting to pass, like the Prairie Ordinance, the Critical Areas Ordinance, the Mazama pocket-gopher protection, and more. In a Feb. 6 article in the Business Examiner, Commissioner Valenzuela is quoted and essentially admits that it's not about the gopher but more so protecting "our" prairies. Somehow private property became "ours". (Thanks to Larry Weaver for that quote). This just proves that Thurston County will use any means it deems necessary to achieve its goals of eventually controlling everything we do. Passage of this ordinance is the first step to no shooting county-wide.

Yes.

Yes with caveat.... It was $10 a month when it started. I believe the cost structure is significantly different now however.

There were excellent fundamental concepts taught early on... stuff you are unlikely to teach yourself. New, useful info is at a trickle now.

You can actually find everything in there, discussed here on the hide... <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">IF</span></span> you are willing to spend the months sorting through the expert opinions of internet sharp shooters, in order to find the few real nuggets of wisdom.... if indeed you can even discern between the two. Or you can fork over the dough, and view the 40+ video/lessons, in one place.

The initial sign up cost is what hurts at the beginning the $10 a month is the easy part.

Great info and videos and I haven't got tired of it yet, in fact I still go through every now and then to watch some over to verify that I have it down.

The biggest benefit is if you have a question or even need to work something out is Frank and Jacob are there to answer them directly.

Money well spent for personal training at home.

I did not see the initial $140, so thank you for pointing it out.

I'm still digging through previous posts and reading the articles written by other members. Perhaps later I will take that dive.

On a side note, I did hit 745 yards with my 1 in 12 twist .308 with 175 grain Nosler competition HPBT's, with help from Bigwheels spotting skills. There is something very addicting to hearing that steel bong but, then again you all already knew this. I'm the new guy to the party.

Just spent a couple hours at the range with Jim, going over some of the stages. I'm really looking forward to watching people shoot some of these diabolical exercises.

Getting hits is one thing.... SEEING impacts is everything.

All of us would likely benefit from pointers early on, to save a whole lot of unlearning later.

Build on a strong foundation... sometimes instruction is far cheaper than it appears.

This fellow is quite humble in regards to his shooting skills. I've seen him in action, and he does a pretty damn good job of steering his rifle.

Me, not so much, but I'm having a good time learning regardless. And...probably the best thing is that I've met some really nice folks along the way!

You do have a good point about the instruction. As far as the last claim...seems the other guys think you have a case of the "humbles".

..... there are just so many people on this board, that are so much more knowledgable than I, that I just want to make clear, that I do not come from a position of any sort of authority.

Let's just say.... I don't have any creds... but I've gotten some good pointers from them's that do! It's those pointers, that paint the picture of what is possible... without which, you may not even know what you are practicing to achieve.

For instance, when I first meandered into this sport, I had no idea that watching your own impacts, at ANY range, was even possible.... come to find out, that is the whole point, of learning the fundamentals, that allow one to drive straight... it makes that spotter somewhat redundant...

IMHO... once the spotter has become a redundancy... you are on the right track.... and it may take a few pointers, to get you there.

On another note.... Best of luck to Jim & Co. this weekend. I have no doubt that this match is going to be <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">EPIC</span>.</span>

I literally feel sick to my stomach as I type this, because I won't be there... and Jim's matches are always one of the highlights of the year.

Watch your own impacts? Interesting. I can see why this would be a valuable skill.

How do you do this? I did notice at 750 yards, I did see where the bullet impacted but I took this as luck. How would someone go about doing this every time?

The knowledge on this board never ceases to amaze me.

This is only one of the reasons why the SH online training is valuable, You can not only read about how to do this but also watch the videos showing you how.

As for a quick Findlay update, STS and I made it over already and Jim's busy as crap finalizing everything.

The weather is incredible for those wondering, the passes we're bare and dry with lots of sun everywhere.

Watched the helicopter come in and can't wait to get on !
Travel safe for those coming out tomorrow and look forward to shooting with you.

Everyone made it through the first day of Findlay Cup. Night shoot just ended about 45 min. ago and it was an interesting day to say the least. Lots of unusual stages, lots of thinking, and lots of fun at dinner. I am BEAT! Hitting the sack as we got an early start tomorrow. Looking forward to the helicopter tomorrow!

I had a great time seeing everyone even if i was just an ro and not a shooter this go around. Jim puts on one helluva match and his attitude makes things even better. There was an amazing amount of work that went on behind the scenes to make this one happen.

Just wanted to echo the group sentiment... I had a great time! Some really challenging stages. Jim and all the others that made the effort to put the match on should be proud of what they did. Hiccups were hurdled, and safety maintained while time-frames were met. AWESOME JOB!!!! Thanks also to Squad 2, fun shooting with you guys, hope we can do it again.

Findlay Cup = Badass awesomeness!!! I had such a great time, and it was obvious that Jim, Jesse, Monte, and all the others whose names are escaping me take great pride in putting on a first class event. What great sponsors, as well. The prize table was unbelievable.

The amount of work involved must be tremendous, and all the shooters are grateful for it. Squad 1 was a great group to be with. MM509 represented us (squad 1) well - nice shooting Matt...

I must say I have shot a few matches but this was the first RO stint I have done. I had a blast! I would do it again in a second if asked. The shooters were great, the stages we ran were fun (and super hard on Sat!). If you guys are worried about having to RO and not getting to shoot, try it, it was cool. Thanks to all who participated and helped especially the sponsors and thanks to Jim. Mike had a good two days RO'ing with you Thanks!

A Huge Thanks to Jim the R.O's and all the people behind the scenes who made this match possible !

I had a great time, met some fantastic people and learned a ton more about what I need to work on lol. Even when you have a bad stage its still good if it teaches you something about yourself.

I've been working for the last 4 hours going through photo's and organizing them for another YouTube slideshow, Computers rendering it right now and I'll put it up with a link when its done.
This ones worth watching in full screen especially if you were in group 6 although I do have some pics of others in there as well.

Lugging the camera with all my shooting gear helped kick my ass especially climbing that hill twice yesterday...Scott thanks for picking me up part way up on the first trip, wasn't feeling well so I'm grateful as hell

Jolyn is saying the same thing!! Tell your wife thank you for me, the pictures are awesome, and Jolyn enjoyed her company. Jolyn was curious if she will be joining you at Scott's match.

The Findlay Cup was frickin sweet! What a crazy course of fire! Talk about a shit pot of curve balls. Thank you Jesse and JTP and everybody who sacrificed any amount of time to the match, for putting so much time, effort and energy into it, it did not go un-noticed.

I had a blast shooting. Squad 1 was a great group of shooters, Jolyn has a metric shit ton of pictures also.......I will try to get them thrown up after Wednesday when my audit is done.

Ranger-not sure if you were saying you wanted to know what my gun is, but here goes.......JD (hsss) built it 2 weeks ago. It is a Rem 700 in 260 locked down to a KRG Whiskey 3 chassis (love that thing-I am newly chassis converted), with 34mm Leupold with the H27 reticle. I had a little over a week to get a load built for it, took it to the range last weekend and trued my Shooter program at 615y and 1050y (with Sunnyside Scotts Kestrel), came home loaded 175rds Friday 3.23.2012 and went to Findlay Cup Saturday 3.24.2012. I got lucky as hell that everything worked, especially after I heard SSSamurai say "ugghhhhh" as my rifle was tipping over at Jesse's stage day one. Luckily those new A.R.C. M10 rings and the new Leupy held zero.
