To the steel, After I got home, I took everything out and gave it a visual inspection.
I am really happy with the results of our torture testing!!!
A little recap of the damage done to the three items we were testing today.
T POST brackets- They performed very well all day as I thought would be the case. I am well happy with the design. By the end of the week we are going to be in full production with our youth creating them from start to finish!! They are very strong!! And Lightweight, and compact, and did I mention they are awesome.....Anyway, we put about 10 rounds on them with 338 guns at 220 yards or so. Everything worked great, they was one shot from the 338 Sniptac that put a nice bulge in the steel, but at the short range, that big and fast of a bullet, it was kind of expected.
Our springback targets had a great day of beating as well. They worked flawlessly all day. We shot one springback target in particular with the 338 sniptac, and it took a big time hit low on the bolt/welded part just behind the AR500. It gave it a nice dent, but at 220 yards, I am very pleased with the results.
Our spinner was working great, and had its bell rung by multiple 338 lapua hits. It did not seem to be phased one bit by those bullets. No dimpling, no craters, nothing, but it did spin it with some super force on the second shot!!!!! It was pretty impressive....We decided to give the spinner another challange, the 338 Sniptac. This is truly a different animal. At 300, it did not get it over in one shot, but put a super hurting to it. I think the spinner and all brackets/bearing we completely fine until the big bullet hit the edge of the plate, and just put too much torque on it to hold everything together. At 300 yards, the sniptac had something like 6400 Ft/LBS of energy. Thats pretty impressive.
Anyway, the steel, and our backer plate on the spinner held up rather nicely, two big craters from the 338 Sniptac, but the 338 Lapua's really did not even dimple it. I am sure if we sat there and hammered it with a bunch of lapuas, at some point it would wear out. But none the less, I was actually pretty impressed how it handled the 338 Lapua.
All in all, I was happy with everything the steel, brackets, and welded products went through.
Its really tough stuff, anything from matches to personal recreation, I feel confident this stuff will last a very long time.
THe biggest thing to know when shooting steel, is the limitations of the product. No matter wahat you have, there is always something that can hurt it. Even if I would have brought a 2 inch thick plate of AR500, someone else would have brought a grenade launcher or tank to try and blow it up!! Just the nature of the beast,
BUT, I thank you guys for allowing me to test everything out. From the T POST brackets, to the spinner, KYL rack, and the spring back targets, They worked great all day during the match, And thats what I was hoping for.
