I bought a P226 tacops about a year ago and instantly ran into magazine problems. So far I've only read about similar issues and Sigs lack of response. The pistol came with four 20 round mags. The mags springs seem to almost instantly weaken and it results in either the follower sticking halfway or the the slide not locking back when empty. Every time I shoot I have to tear them apart to clean and stretch the spring. So far I haven't been able to locate a plus 10% or even replacement springs at all. Should I just wait until someone comes out with replacements or struggle though Sigs customer support? From what I've heard their solution is to have the mags sent back to them and either repaired or replaced at no cost, but wait time could be almost 6 months!! Help!?!?

The mags that are the issue are the checkmates the new ones are being shipped with mecgars, The good mags will say made in Italy on them. I have not heard anyone have a six month wait even in this market on the new ones. Any sig 226 magazine will work fine even with the grips.

Mine say made in the USA on them. I know the 15 rounders will work, but this is my 3gun pistol so the high capacity is really what I'm after. And the grips extend past the mag well probably a 1/4" so bumping a shorter mag in takes a little effort. I have a local Sig dealer contacting them for me to hopefully speed the process up, 6 months is the extreme from only what I've read or heard. Thank you for sharing the knowledge and insight!

Yep you got checkmates, crap mags for the sig. I have used checkmates on other guns without issues but for some reason they screwed up bad with the sigs. Other issues that the checkmates have besides jamming is they won't fall out of the magwell unloaded, they won't stay open after last shot has been fired, they are not as easy to do quick loads with. I just got a new tacops and the mags have mecgar written right on the mag now and made in Italy so there is no question who built them. I almost got one with the old mags and called sig about it and they said it would be about three week turn around by the time I shipped them back and got the new ones. A local gun shop got one in brand new for $400 less than the other guy was asking with the good mags so I lucked out. I really love the feel of the gun though. It is the only gun that felt as if it was built for my hands. Next to my M&Ps it holds its own.
