SIG Kilo 3000BDX black edition? UPDATE

Bad diopter design. No go for hunting.
Some of you people would cut your nose off to spite your face, can we quit pretending every little situation is dire straits.

I have used mine for two seasons of turkey hunting and I’m into my second season of deer hunting with them, they have not yet caused me to miss an animal. Yes my diopters move occasionally literally takes three seconds to move them back with witness marks. Which I would make witness marks even if they didn’t move sometimes and others have already stated that problem has been fixed. Beats the hell out of carrying a regular pair of binoculars and a separate laser rangefinder.

I agree, that's the only thing holding me back at this point.

That for sure, the average glass, they eyecups are HUGE, and most importantly the necessity for the actual laser beam to line up with the circle reticle. Mine were so far off it was pathetic........laser actually impacted at 6:30 completely outside of the circle reticle. The service guy at Sig said "it was within spec" so I sent it back and told them they could keep it. Too bad really because I actually loved the superior RF ability and wind holds. Maybe (hopefully) the black ones are better. That $780 deal makes me want to try another.

The diopters have been fixed, they are a non issue.

Do they lock down? Like a real alpha bino?
No, no they don’t. So no, it’s not fixed. They attempted a “fix” by placing clicks/bump stops on the diopter adjustment.

Is it acceptable as a shooting bino? Yes.
Is it acceptable as a legit hunting bino? No. Absolutely no.

For many years, the non locking diopter was a sign of lower quality bino. Nothing has changed. These are high quality tech with meh quality build. When Sig matches software with build quality, they will have a winner. Until then, it’s not a winner. Yet.

Don’t be that guy. These binos have room for improvement. Lots.

Did I say these were the perfect bino's? People were having problems with the diopters moving unintentionally, and Sig has since made them tighter. Mine are a bit of a struggle to turn, which leads me to believe that in a hunting situation, they won't adjust when bumped. These are a great option at regular price! At $800 they are fantastic, but I guess every piece of equipment should be built to your standards.

When it came out, and I got mine for $950, it was the best Binos + LRF on the market in my opinion and it did a bunch of the ballistics solver and Kestrel hook up. I just range the target and see the dope immediately. It's pretty nice.

Since then I haven't really bothered too much with ranging and getting the dope, I just range. The glass isn't bad. I've been eyeing myself an upgrade to the Leica HDR 2700s though.

No, you said the diopters have been fixed. When in fact they have not.

Not my standards bro. Industry standards. Find me top tier bino without locking diopters. I won’t wait, bc there isn’t one.

Sig spent all the money on tech. Which they should. Thats their target. I’m not their target consumer bc I demand better glass and legit bino construction methods. Not spinning diopters.

Is someone claiming that these are top tier binoculars? These are a mid level binocular with a top tier LRF and a built in ballistic program...nothing more. If you are looking for top tier binos, then by all means look elsewhere. If you're looking for a badass rangefinder put into very useable binos, then look no further. I couldn't give two shits if they have locking diopters, cause as I've said before "mine will not turn if bumped"

define “bumped”

Bc wearing these in a chest harness and pulling them out to view game, they spin...

often.

have you worn them in a chest harness?
It appears not. Case closed. These aren’t for hunters.
Yes I've worn them in the chest harness, yes I've worn them while hunting, and sometimes during orgy's. IT TAKES REAL EFFORT TO MOVE THE DIOPTERS. I'm not saying that your pair isn't faulty (ps..they have a lifetime warranty, send them back). I'm telling you that MY pair has VERY tight diopters.

but do they lock?

I was at the orgy and did not witness spinning diopters.

Can these be used as just a bino for glassing? ie no illuminated reticle on the screen for ranger finding? And RF can be turned on?

Still be interested to know the exact differences, sounds like some software but it just seems odd Sig is releasing a new version lots of places are selling for $300 less than the OD version even at the same store. Sportsmans says it's supposed to have 8 onboard profiles (6 centerfire, 1 muzzleloader, 1 crossbow) and it's using BDX 2.0.

I'll email Sig and ask and report what they say, but I haven't been too impressed with their tech responses in the past.

these literally didnt spin for me man.

I dont understand your severe hangup about this issue. What trophy animal did you miss based on non-locking diopters? my Top Tier rifle scope doesnt have locking diopter and that gets banged and bashed around and is never and issue, literally ever

And I dont believe Sig is advertising these and marketing them as top tier alpha big swinging dick binos either. and I dont think anyone in this thread even suggested such.

According to Sig's optical CS tech response they are the same unit functionally: "The black versions is just cost saving model. It performs the same as the green but it doesn’t come with any of the accessories, shoulder harness, bino strap, printed instructions, lens cloth, etc."

The black versions do come with the accessories, they're a bit different but black with white writing.

That's what I was afraid of, basically what I've come to expect from Sig's technical CS people.......bad information, thought their "Optical" CS people might be better informed, clearly not :) Makes it hard to trust the black version doesn't have cost cutting that impacts performance compared to the "standard" model.

Ive owned both and they seem to work the same, I really enjoy both models, I don't notice any slower speeds or anything with the Black version

I just got my black pair in yesterday. When trying to find out where exactly the beam hits on the reticle, turns out its not even close to being in or by the circle, its off in the 4:30 area outside the circle. anyone else have this problem?

Mine hits dead center on a 780 yard target. I'll test it for long range later.

The diopter is nice and tight. Certainly won't move.

Mine was the same way, only at 6:30 way outside the circle. Quality control must not be Sig's strong point with this piece of equipment.

So for those of you who have a misaligned reticle how did you figure out where it is actually projecting the laser and are you just going from memory as far as ranging stuff?
