Rifle Scopes Sig Tango6 3-18x44 vs Viper PST II 5-25x50?

Have a 6.5 rifle coming in and trying to decide on scope. I have an option to get a PST II 5-25 for about $100 off list but I also see this, what I'm guessing is 1st gen, Sig Tango 6 3-18x44 scope that undercuts that by another $275. Seeing as Sig original list is higher I'm wondering if its the better buy.

Anyone able to compare the glass between the two?

I do like the Sig coming with custom turret and anti-cant feature. Not too thrilled about losing magnification as my eyes are bad enough already.

I know Vortex has their replace/repair for anything warranty. From a quick glance at Sig I'm thinking their warranty isn't as comprehensive.

I picked up the Sig Tango 6 3-18x44 (First Gen) you're referring to. It'll either go on an AR10 I have (waiting on new rings) or on a 6.5 build I'm working on at the moment.

I haven't had a chance to take it out yet and give it a whirl, but at first glance it is definitely an upgrade from the 3-9x40 Weaver I've been using.

I'll be shooting mostly silhouettes instead of bullseye targets so I guess the magnification isn't as big of an issue for me as it might be for others.

Vortex's warranty seems to be "If you have a problem we'll fix it, forever."

Sig Sauer's warranty seems to be the same for things like the glass, turrets, and things like the erector assembly. For the electronics (anti-cant system, illuminated reticle, etc) it's only 5 years.

I am curious on this, too... I have one of the Sigs on the way, but am wondering if the 44mm objective might not be a bit small for the zoom range. For now, I'm going to assume that Sig knows optics better than I do, and made sure to size things appropriately. We'll see, I s'pose...

The Sig seems to be an excellent scope. I think it's well placed in it's price range. Glass is decent and functionality seems good. I like the scope.

The jury is still out for me on the Gen 2 PST. I looked through one at a match a couple months ago and compared it to a couple other scopes on hand. It's a nice improvement over the Gen I. But the two in the wild that I'm most closely aware of haven't fared well. So we'll see.

Got mine from a guy who got his from Optics Planet also. When all is said and done, I ended up paying roughly $600 for mine. Can't beat that.

Found (and ordered) mine at Optics Planet for $799, then five minutes later I found it on Amazon, sold by Optics Planet, for $729. Got the difference back.

It's the older version, but it'll work for me... I'd rather have the DEV-L reticle, but it's not worth $400+ to me over the mil-scale milling for the gun that's going to host this optic.

I have not yet tested the Gen 2 PST, but I have tested the 1st Gen Sig 3-18x44. I though it was a very nice scope and if you can get it for $800 or thereabouts, you should go for it.

I have the 1st Gen 3-18x44 Tango6. It is an excellent piece of hardware. I love the turrets and the glass is good. Only downside for me is it's pretty heavy -- compared to a Leupold VX-6 3-18 anyway.
However, the 1st Gen scopes do not have the anti-cant feature. At least mine doesn't.

I just received mine from FedEx-aclaus, and I'll be playing with it, looking off the back patio this evening. Mine doesn't have the LevelPlex function, either, so I'll just have to do like I do with every other rifle/optic I have, and manually check/correct for cant as best I can with ye olde highly calibrated eyeball.

In any event, this will be (for me) sort of a first application for this sort of optic... call it hunting, with some tactical features. I intend to install it on a CF-barreled 338 WM as sort of an ultimate North American hunting rifle (or at least my version of it). While not light, the 3-18 Sig is certainly lighter than the optics that I tend to use for this sort of build (34mm tubes and 56mm objectives). I'm looking forward to playing with it, for sure.

I didn't think mine had the level plex either but the instruction booklet says you have to press in on the battery compartment to turn it on and that it turns off after 2 mins.

Interesting. Do you know the Sig part number for your scope, by chance? Looking at the emailed receipt, mine is part number SOT63002.

My mistake, mine doesn't have it. I had put it back in the safe by the time I found that note in the manual. But in reading closer the level plex is only on certain models.

Ah, that sucks. Regarding returning your scope, might I suggest posting it in the Optics PX here on the Hide (for what you'd get if you returned it) to pass along the pricing/deal to a fellow Hider? You wouldn't lose anything, and someone on here would get a great deal on a great optic. If it doesn't sell in a week or so, go ahead and return it to the vendor...

Good suggestion. I'll think it over. I already had 2 PMs from folks interested. If I do choose to not keep it I'll post it up here first.

I have the Vortex as well and though my eyes aren't good enough to talk about glass quality, I do think I'll want the 5-25 magnification instead of the 3-18.

Agreed, the Tango 6 line seem to be excellent optics for the $$. I've shot 1 Gen 2 PST, and only for about 15 minutes. The glass and turrets are a definite upgrade over the gen 1. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the glass. But...the one I was able to play with lost it's reticle 3 days later , I'm thinking the build quality may not have gotten the same upgrades the glass did.
