I have three Burris xtrs; 2 XTR IIs and 1 XTR III. I am a big fan of these scopes and have used them for years hunting and competing. I've experienced no tracking issues or any other real complications. I'm in the market for a new scope and I'd really like to know what people think about the Sig optics. A buddy has a Whiskey6, likes it but has only used it twice. It looks good and is in my price range. Anyone have an opinion?

They are a solid option. Your buddy either has a Whiskey 5 or Tango 6. Whiskey series are hunting scopes, Tango series are Tactical. Solid scopes with cool features, I've got a few myself.

You're right, he has the whiskey5. I'm looking at the tango6, optics planet has the 4-24x on sale for what seems like a good price.

They've held up well for you?

I like the Tango 6, it's a solid optic. In my humble opinion it leaves you with a choice to make. It's nicer in the glass department than the XTR2. Performance is a wash as the XTR2 is as solid and durable as any scope.

But its not as nice as the XTR3. The glass is nicer in the Burris, as well as FOV. The XTR3 is nearly a half pound lighter.

The Sig 30x is illuminated, and Levelplex is cool. Illuminated versions are not yet out on the XTR3. And there is a bit of a price difference but nothing huge.

Both are good scopes. If Burris has treated you well then it boils down to buying another brand for variety.

I am a fan of sig in general. I use their bino RF and their pistol in competitions. I have looked through ans hot several. That being said I don't like their scope for couple reasons esp compared to the XTR3.

-weight
-fov
-glass
-collapsing knobs wobble...and are huge
- half mil main bar and .2 tree...seriously make everything the same.

If you want some variety in your life get a GenII razor or a Minox when people start dumping them after their huge 50% off sale. They are both selling for redic low prices right now...

That being said...if it aint broke don't fix it. There is more than something to be said about sticking with something that you know works and familiarity... and the XTR3 is really turning heads.

I agree on a couple points here. I run the SIG LRF and really like it. Good product.

And the XTR3 is definitely going places Burris hasnt gone before. Case in point, I have two friends in PRS who I never believed would run Burris optics. One of them recently sold off a pair of MK5s and bought a 30x XTR3. He says its nicer than his Leupys. The other friend was a USO shooter. His top turret came off on day one of the PRS Finale in Tennessee. When he was informed that it would take 3 months to replace/fix it, that was the last straw. He told them he was done and he bought an XTR3.

Good things happening with this scope line. Folks are really positive about it.

Man that is funny that you suggest Minox. I have an older ZA 5-25 that I like and was thinking about going with one of their newer lines. They're going 50% off??

Yes they are great and have held up well. I've got other scopes that have better glass, others have better turrets, etc. I will say that if you are paying MSRP you can buy something better for that price. I've seen the Sig scopes here on the hide going for MUCH lower and at those prices they are a great option.

I played with an XTR3 last year at SHOT and it looked very interesting. It seems they have been a little hard to find every time I have a little cash available. Too many options and not enough $$$

Having owned a tango 6, and demo'd a Xtr3, I would definitely go the Burris route. The glass, field of view, reticle, and turrets were far and away better on the Burris.
Man I appreciate this input. I think I'm ordering another xtr3. I wouldn't mind more variety, but I think it's a positive thing that all of my rifles are running the same systems. I've been extremely impressed by the xtr line.

I love my Tango6 and I actually like the large turrets. Probably some of the best illumination I’ve seen in a scope and tuff as iron.

I’ve never looked through a Sig scope, and I’m sure many are happy with theirs, but I have heard some problems (not sure of model). With that said I own an XTR II and like it for all, but glass does fall a bit short in my eyes for price and new competition at the price point. The XTR III that I’ve used however, is excellent for price. I would throw in to the mix Athlon Ares ETR and/or a Cronus BTR. I feel they are excellent scopes in that price range as well.

So you are crapping on a scope you have no first hand experience with and aren't sure what model or issues it even had? Wouldn't it be better to just say you have no experience with Sig and leave it at that?

I bought my gen 2 tango 6 3-18 used for about half what they were being sold for new, the resale market on them is terrible and as such I got a scope that blows the price bracket I was in out of the water. If I were paying full price for a new one I may consider other options that were maybe a little lighter, or slightly better optically, but used they are hard to beat when you look at the money you get to keep in your pocket.

Lighten up Francis. I’m not “crapping” on the scope. I said I’m sure many are happy with them, but I have heard there were/have been some issues. What’s wrong with stating that?

Perhaps because you've never even held one and don't have a clue what you are talking about? Or maybe the fact that you've been on the site a whole 2 weeks and now you are the expert..

I'm not trying to persuade anybody to a Sig scope, even though I think they are a great option. But I also didn't start talking poorly about other scopes that I've no idea about. I believe the whole purpose of the thread was a Sig vs Burris, give your .02 about the Burris that's cool. Don't speculate about a scope you have no experience with.

For me, the non illumination is a deal breaker. Living in W. Washington, it can be pretty gloomy here and as you can imagine, the tree lines and backdrops are pretty dark, so illumination is almost a must.
I will agree that the Sig is an over fed Whale. If you can’t shoot your target, you can beat it to death with the optic.

@lowlight Good info on Sig. Any update on their contracts or any improvements they have/will make?

I just mounted and zeroed my XTRIII. Being antelope into dear season I have not messed with it much yet. The Tango 6 are very nice. The Apparent FOV on them in huge on top of other things mentioned. I did have to remove the bolt lift on my Remington 700 to clear the power ring on the tango 6. The weight in some of these scopes, I think is somewhat indicative of how robust they are. RazorII, Tango6, NF beast.

What were they? I tend to stay pretty in tune with this stuff and never had any or heard any?
My above statement was based on some scuttlebutt in another forum/group on Facebook I was following at the time. It was in reference to tracking and focus.

I have stopped following that group as I have learned there were several participants that continually made un merited statements on several brands and we’re finally called out by others in the group.

Therefore, I retract my initial statement on Sig scopes and apologize to the OP and others as my statement had no validity.
