I have a Sig 516. I was trying to sight it in at 120 yards today and it was impossible t get within a 12 inch MOA. I realized that the guy who put the scope on didnt tighten the bolts among other things. He also didnt get it bore sighted in very well either.

My question is........would it be best to sight it in at 25 t 40 yards? then 100 yds would be almost perfect after that.... or continue to sight it in at 100yds?

Sig 516
Barska hornet scope. ( brand new and was free)

I just got it bor sighted by a professional and plan to go ut in the morning. any advice to get this thing to shoot straight at 100 yds would be nice thanks. I wouldnt mind sighting it in at 20 yds if its best. im just new to the scope thing. thanks..

Re: sighting in a Sig AR

Sir,

Get it on paper at 25 yards and then move to 100 from there. Also, I know "free is free" but I know you'll be happier in the long run if you spend a little now on your optics. Just my .02....

Good luck,
Matt

My 2 cents, it is your rifle, you should do the research and become"the profesional scope installer." I have seen plenty of work done by scope mounting pros and it often to ends like your story did.

It is not hard, just takes a little research and everthing you ever wanted to know is on this forum. No one can set up a scope on your rifle and have it fit you, everybody is different and only you can fine tune it to your exact needs(eye relief, cant, ring height etc.) The money spent to have it done would buy you a decent torque wrench.

Good shooting, Brian!!

PS ( In my opinion you should ditch that barska, at the minimum get yourself a 1-4 vx3 with german #4 and target turrets)

Re: sighting in a Sig AR

I think bore sighting on sand bags with the lower removed at 25 yards would be a good idea... you can use a vertical line through a 1 inch dot drawn on the target with a level and then level the upper on the bags and level the cross hair to the line... my 2 cents and just a start. you can also hang a string with a weight at the end to get the cross hairs level..
