I have owned several sightron scopes over the years. today I took off a S2 6.5-20 scope to sell the scope and liquidate some funds. I have the same identical scope I use for load development which has helped me shoot some very good groups way out there. the scope was mounted in talley lightweight rings which aren't the most heavy duty out there. I noticed the tube on the scope was actually dented from the rings. I had this same thing happen with an S1 3-9 scope a few years back. my point is I didn't over torque the screws, heck I would have stripped out the talley lightweights if I had. just wondering if any of you guys have seen dented tubes after you take the rings off your sightron and if the scope tubes are softer than others.

Re: sightron dented tubes??

Don't know about the S1 or S2's but I use Sightron SIII scopes with Leupold MK4 rings (both steel and aluminum). I have one on a 338 LM that has been taken off once and there were no marks or dents.

Re: sightron dented tubes??

talked to the guys at sightron and they said the biggest problem have had is with aluminum rings, they said the edges are sharp where the rings clamp together and it would probably be a good idea to knock that edge down.

The tube denting is one reason I started lapping my scope rings. Most of my friends get the "$10-20" sets, and I notice they have more of an edge to them. I really have to lap the shit out of some of them just to get 70-80%.
