Have read many threads, but Sightron scopes never seem to be mentioned. Have Elk that are daring me to thin them out, but require shot at 500+ yards.

Have a ten year old VariX III in 3.5-10x40mm. Is OK 'cept desire more low light, German #4 reticle and AO. Have leica range finder so no need to guess. M70 with BOSS in '06 puts three shots of 180grn nosler spitzers in 3/4" at 100yards no sweat.

The Sightron 3.5-10x44 or 56mm seem to fit the need. Leupold 4.5-16x50LR and Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10 seem about the same optically. Can't afford more expense. Not impressed with any of the Leupolds with 1" tubes.

Am just curious about why they aren't mentioned in threads like Millet, Leupold, etc.

Please share your experience.

I think the main reason you don't see Sightron mentioned too much here is because they have been used mainly by Benchrest shooters. They have a tactical line-up but it only consists of a couple scopes. Assuming though that you are asking about the SIII scopes, they have target knobs and 1/8th MOA adjustments which most guys here prefer tactical knobs and 1/4 MOA or 1/10th Mil adjustments. The Sightrons are great scopes with great glass and worth the money if it fits your particular needs. Try the search function you'll find some info: Snipers Hide Google Search

Sightron makes a solid scope and the click values are .25 inches on the SIII line. Not the 1/8 inch as previously stated. They do have some short fallings though, non-FFP and nonmatched reticles and turrets. In terms of glass you just don't get much better then Sightron. Overall quality of the scopes vary but as long as you stick with the SII or SIII line you will be fine.

Sighton makes great glass.

Rather than going with SII I would recommend SII Big Sky - a great series, quite a bit better than SII. In fact, I feel that only alpha glass is better than SII Big Sky.

Re: Sightron Scope for 5-600yd shots?

From my experience, I would go with the Zeiss for your needs. I really like the Sightron that I have, but it is not a hunting scope at all, but then again I am running the SIII 8-32. That is a lot of magnification and too much for your needs. The glass is good and the scope has never given me one minute of trouble tracking, but for my hunting needs, I am finding myself going more towards the Zeiss or NF these days. If you decide to go with a Sightron, I don't think you will be disappointed. They appear to make quality products and have been very helpful answering my questions when I have spoken to their home office.
