Hi all, I was just looking for some tips in Sika deer hunting. I searched and found nothing so any tips for calling or areas that may naturally attract Sika deer would be great or things to look for. I've heard that they prefer marshland which there is a lot of here. I'm in Maryland and have only gone deer hunting a couple times and pheasant hunting a handful of times. Thanks in advance!

Re: Sika Deer

THey love to sit in deep tangled trees and vegetation and bugle their ass off here in texas, the one I shot was a stink ass. FOUL! meat tasted like liver....but I can get them to bugle and move with a cow elk call.

Re: Sika Deer

lay off the call unless you hear the male bugle (sounds just like a Elk) otherwise get a pair of binos and search like hell in the tangles...they blend in real well. But again, this is experience out of the hill country in Texas, not the east cost. so take it for what it is worth.

Re: Sika Deer

i have hunted sikas for years down near cambridge. ive killed numerous does or cows and a four and six point stag. the most important piece of gear you can have hunting the little black devils is a great pair of binos. you have to search and search for them they blend in very well in the marsh. i would take the rifle you can shoot the best. it docent take much to kill them they aren't very big. Ive killed them with everything from a 243 to a 300rum it all works. also if you see one don't hesitate to shoot it. it might be your only chance they rarely stand still for more than a few seconds. and hunting on blackwater is a good place to start if you can get a permit

Have you ever heard of Fishing Bay WMU in Maryland? It's a public one and it has I think about 29,000 acres. Have you heard of it or know if it is a good place to hunt? From the areal maps I've seen it looks good. Just looked it up and it is really close to Blackwater.

Re: Sika Deer

ive never heard of it . the only places ive hunted are private pieces that border blackwater. they used to drive blackwater the first monday of the gun season.. that was alot of fun. kept the little buggers moving all day
