Suppressors SilencerCo Maxim 50 - $450

Mine shipped out today. Looking forward to laying hands on it when it gets here.

Now I need to decide what scope to put on it. I could take off a Vortex SE 1-6 from an AR... or go buy an Athlon 1-4 or 1-6. Decisions...

Just have to think of it as a deer gun not a tack driver rifle. Look on youtube their are several review with some load data. if your holding a 2in group at 100 yds will equal dead deer and extra hunting time for you.

Mine is supposed to arrive today. My shipment from FX said indirect signature required. I printed and signed their release form and left it. Hope that’s good enough.

I only had a few minutes to open it up and inspect before heading back to work, but a few observations...

1) It’s pretty front end heavy (duh). But I think a mounted optic will help to balance it out. Mine is getting an EGW scope base, and an Athlon Talos BTR 1-4 in Warne rings.

2) the recoil pad is quick removeable by depressing buttons on either side of it, opening up a cavernous storage area inside the buttstock.

3) on mine, the striker would cock with the breech opened, but would not cock with the breech closed. After a quick flash of frustration, an internet search yielded me to Traditions FAQ where they describe this exact issue, and the answer is to disassemble and clean out any grease/funk that’s built up. Easy solution. I will try it tonight.

4) the custom hard case is pretty cool, and an unexpected treat. Seems well made and comes with all the accessories and fixings in the pockets.

Should have mine tomorrow (via indirect signature). Looking forward to see if SiCo is still giving out the limited edition hard cases (limited to first 3000 units). Will be mounting a Vortex Crossfire 1x24 on it since we're not allowed to have magnification and/or electronic sights for muzzle loader season.

Was looking at the Remington 700 Ultimate Muzzle Loader but the Maxim 50 for $450 was too good to pass up.

I have mine since over a year and still love it!

I have been playing a lot with different loads, here is a video I made a while ago

I have now a new load, 30 grain of blackhorn with a 400 grain lead bullet, I'm planning to take my first deer this year with it subsonic.

I found some of your videos in my research, I can’t wait to experiment with some different bullets/charges and get hopefully a couple of favorites dialed in - one heavy high velocity load for deer hunting, and one maybe close to subsonic for shorter distance work, plinking around.

I haven't even played with accuracy, I figured if I'm hitting my steel plates I'm good, if I have more time I'll develop a accurate load using solid copper rounds

Anybody else get theirs? I learned that I need high rings to get the scope view to clear the suppressor, and with that a cheek riser.

Cheek riser is en route to me from Beartooth.

I’m all stocked up on powders and projectiles now, just need time to get out and shoot it.

I took mine out and shot it a few times just to try it.

I mounted a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 in Warne high QD rings. The scope was a take-off from an AR. I was shooting at a cow sized pile of dirt from 100 yards and was hitting center of the pile. Sorry but that’s all I can say accuracy wise for now.

I shot 300gr Hornady bullets with both 50gr and 100gr White Hots.

I shot without ear protection, and the report is still loud, but - I had no ringing of the ears or any discomfort, and there was no blast or concussion, just a loud ‘crack’. I’d have no problems shooting this in the woods on a hunt without ear pro.

Probably the biggest takeaway I had was the lack of recoil. Felt like almost nothing to me... convinced me this is a great rifle to get my kids into when they’re older.

I really like this rifle, to me for $450 the juice is worth the squeeze... I’ve always been a black powder guy, so it’s just fun for me.

One lesson I learned.... when cleaning, be sure to measure off and mark an insertion depth on the ramrod so you don’t over insert the rod into the suppressor and lose the patch. I was able to get the patch out of the baffles but it was a pain.
