Yes Pete, i absolutely hate with a Passion POGs, which you would qualify, by the way that stands for Persons Other than Grunts...you fall right into that category. But you come on here spouting shit off like you were involved in some major combat...kinda hard to be shot at when you are fixing a jet engine though. Top Secret still classified, go pound sand man, you are nothing more than a senile old fuck who wants to talk himself up. For your info as well, i do have some pretty real world experience with suppressors, this is an Ops Inc can, taken in a far away land. Care to guess where it was?

I don't think you have operational experience, other than the range, to determine whether suppressors work in real world environments. I told you my opinion from on the range and I also have operational experience with suppressors so I told you that you are incorrect. I also believe that others have done the same. Not sure why we are still talking about it because until you have operational experience with cans you don't have much to say.

Did you have to take a crap in this thread too?

Not trying to pile on, just tired of topics getting derailed by big blue letters which are surely coming my way now.

Re: SILENCERS....what is the BEST for AR-M4???????

I'm a bit surprised no one pointed out an obvious fact-- Suppressors for most of the uses the military uses them for isn't intended to make for a 100% silent kill. It's a bit tough to drop a target from any sort of reasonable distance with subsonic ammo. The true value in using a suppressor is the fact that it obscures the location of the shooter. Yes, you still have a rather loud sonic crack, and depending on the quality of the can, the muzzle report might not be as quiet as you'd like. But again, we're not talking about making silent kills. If you can't hear the muzzle report from a distance, the only sound you have to go off of is the sonic crack of the bullet. Anyone who has seen a picture of a jet going super sonic, you can see how the sound propagates off of the object going into super sonic flight. The crack comes off at an angle from the tip. What this does for you, is if you engage a target in the middle of a mass of people, those to the left will swear it came from the right... those to the right will swear it came from the left. It prevents the shooters location from being narrowed down due to the muzzle report. And the inability to hear a muzzle report also prevents a range estimation.

That's the true tactical advantage to suppressors on long guns- confusion and obscuring your location... to do that, you don't need a 100% silent rifle. On carbines and pistols it comes down to muzzle flash, shoot-ability and less noise in confined environments...

Anyone having real experience with suppressors would be well aware of this, and not expect a true silent weapon.

Just curious Pete, was that can wet or dry?

OP... like most things in the firearms world... you get what you pay for; keep that in mind. Cheaper isn't always a deal.

I thought you said it was the quietest can ever? And that you had all this experience around cans... There's a big difference in sound reduction between a can that is dry and one that's wet...

you don't know what I'm asking?

Very basic can question,... next question would be if wet or gassed, what fluid/gas was use to produce that db ?
Gas you ask, yes there is a gas that can be induced into the can an bore, that will work wonders for that first shot. Do a search,... I know Hollywood is leaving you hanging these days, because the gas trick has been on a, Need To Know, until 3 months ago,... and ain't been around long enough for want-a-bees to catch up.

Re: SILENCERS....what is the BEST for AR-M4???????

I don't think the problem is pilling, as much as it is getting, correct answers, for the questions ask.

Alot of us know the difference between rain an piss running down our backs, and will let alot of "Warm Rain" run off. Then again a few, bait others to find out where they stand,... problem is, you won't know the truth about them(unless you know where to look) until their L/D has been crossed. Profiles can be had, by asking the right questions from both sides of the fence. YMMV

+1 Thank you.

Rest was quite amusing, but I've run out of popcorn. Time to move on.

I'm in line for that SWR. I'm convinced it will be a great can and am willing to be a guinea pig. Will be able to tell you in about 6 months!
smile.gif

Above, another member suggested you list out your goals for the can in more detail. If length and weight is of any concern, you might want to check out Tornado Tech's "Stubby". Of all M4 options I've seen, that one's the most intriguing.

Not likely the best sound reduction, but it's half the length and only 66% the weight of other 5.56 cans out there. Since you asked for the M4, a carbine, maybe CQB and portability are an issue for you. Getting in and out of a vehicle, or around a corner, would be much easier with a stubby on there.

Someday I'd love to put that can on an SBR!

If you are a truck to bench shooter, then you might give the YHM Phantom some consideration. It's relatively inexpensive, very effective, and built to survive a nuclear blast. It also has a slightly larger bore, which means the chance of a baffle strike is fairly nil. If you go through a lot of rounds, the durability of that suppressor will be rewarding. (It's also long and heavy. See above.)

Anyway, just some thoughts.

Re: SILENCERS....what is the BEST for AR-M4???????

wow sounds like alot of drama in this thread im not in to that but i would love to own a suppressor but my state wont allow civillians to own them no matter even if u do put the paperwork in for a class III liscense, but i was curious whats the difference between a wet or dry can. the reason is i plan on moving to wyoming in about a year if the funds of another job go thru and was wanting to get one then. thanks

Re: SILENCERS....what is the BEST for AR-M4???????

Most suppressors are going to be designed for dry use, but some can be used either way or are designed specifically for wet use. Wet simply refers to the addition of a substance to the baffle area of the suppressor; water, oil, grease or special gels. What's happening is that the fluid helps to rapidly decrease the temp of the gases from the muzzle; this decreases their volume as a result of the physical properties of gas. Less gas=less noise. But you have various issues involved with running wet cans, one of which is that the substance in the can must be replenished and some last longer than others. Also, due to the nature of having liquids or semi-viscus fluids in the can, you'll lose accuracy (think about consistency of route of travel for exhaust gases in relation to muzzle crown--- now compare that to a can filled with grease/water/whatever which will displace with every shot in different directions).

Just get a conventional can designed for dry use- running a wet can is really a pretty specialized affair- same with actually using gas jetted into the can/tube; only practical for specific applications... Not to mention, they aren't exactly popular these days due to the above stated draw backs.
