Night Vision SIMRAD MK1 KN200

Re: SIMRAD MK1 KN200

Image ok..Been in use a lot of years. Biggest downfall they have to re-zeroed every time they are mounted.

Some report the the zero shift is repeatable and that may be good for some...

I can tell you 2 LE Depts we work with on a routine basis with refuse to use their SIMRADS because of this. (I will not post the agency names here, but if you're LEO or other agency, PM me, be glad to discuss). They will not (and I agree wholeheartedly ) will not just "use a different dope" especially when civilians are involved. This might be fine for Mil where the rules of engagement are a bit different and as we can see, but this old school NOD is not used much nowadays for any serious stuff. Some LE Depts still have these systems, but do not use them and they just sit in the SWAT truck or van because of the re-zeroing aspect.

Almost ALL the LE snipers we know and work with would not dream of simply using a different dope when an optic is removed, moved or bumped. . We re-zero EVERY time an optic is removed, moved, or bumped. (Except for the current Gen Clip-ons such as the 22's/27's etc.) That is a fact and common sense at that.

For the hog hunters, etc. sure...If you know your dope from one optic to another and it goes on the same place on the rail each time, I'm sure it's ok for them.

Hope this helps. :)

You must also remember that you are having to deal with a lot ov vertical offset, with this type of system. (See Image)

Re: SIMRAD MK1 KN200

Understood, I just saw one for sale and the price was right, but in the end the physical size of the unit/mounting and not knowing the actual condition scared me off. I am just impatient

. Looking to get a good/affordable clip on and start terrorizing the coyotes at night. I appreciate the info, I will continue to put away some funds and am anxiously awaiting the reveal on what seems to be multiple companies coming out with a quality product in the range I am looking to spend in the near future!

Victor,...the KN/SIMRAD units have seen extensive military service without any major problems,...including accounting for some of the furthest targeted kills with any NV device, shoulder fired.

They are robust units and depending on tube spec the image is as good as any other similar device.

If the price is right,...buy it. It won't dissapoint.

Yes Sir they sure do along with our US Marines for many years.

The re-zeroing aspect has always been an issue, especially for LE agencies where the ROE's are of course different than that of a Mil unit.

Nowadays, there are many better options out there. :)
