Single vs Double Stage

My brother bought a $90 double stage for his AR-15.
I believe I also have a double stage on my handgun (90-two.)


On both of them, I disliked the long travel - especially on the handgun: that is, if my handgun's trigger was on a rifle, I'd hate it.
On the AR, I disliked how 'sharp' it was when it released the hammer. After trying it, I inspected it and noticed that the notches were more pointed than on my stag arms' single stage trigger. I'm sorry for not being able to use proper terms.




Am I wrong to dislike double stage for either or both reasons?

Rifles are single stage or two stage triggers. Handguns are single action or double action.

It's all about preference. I prefer two-stage triggers because I do not like to be "surprised" when the sear releases the hammer. I want to be able to take up the first stage and any creep, touch the second stage, and break cleanly when I pull the trigger.

Thanks! I didn't think it would be possible to do double action without double stage similarities. But, I didn't want to assume.

I'm with you. I just finished a build and put a CG-22 2 stage in it and really have come to like just what your saying. I set the 1st stage to be lighter than the 2nd ( with this trigger I can adjust the 1st completely out if I choose ). Using it this way I find that I take up the 1st stage and while sitting on the 2nd I can better get into the "zone" for the shot and get in best time with my breathing, hold ect. I have a Jewell varmint on another rifle set at 8oz. that I think is a great trigger but I have more confidence where I am breaking my shot with the 2 stage CG. I don't have a whole lot of time behind the Jewell yet so maybe my opinion will change in time. But that CG Extreme model 22 is one hell of a trigger.

I personally don't like 2 stage trigger, when I push my finger against the trigger, I want the rifle to go off, not think about pushing it in 2 ways.

But this is simply personal preference.

I never thought I'd like a 2 stage, but now that's all I use. Only you can decide for you.
