I am looking at getting another full length sizer die to use with my .308 AR. I have been using a lee full length sizer die for several thousand rounds and now I am looking to upgrade.

What dies should I be looking at for my .308 Ar? Should I go with another lee, or are there better options out there for an autoloader?

ETA: Reason I am swapping is to help a friend out with his reloading setup. Mine will be on loan so I need/ want a replacement.

I am thinking this small base sizer die from rcbs is what I am looking for.

Midway usa RCBS die

RCBS small base T/C (taper crimp) die set is the way you want to go for semi autos

got one for my armalite AR10 and it has worked good for me.

Re: Sizer die for .308 Ar?

I started off using small base dies for my AR's because that's what I was told I needed. Brass life sucked because the chamber wasn't tight enough to really need the SB dies, so I was overworking the brass even though I was sizing it to just fit snug in the chamber.

I went to a FL sizer and doubled my brass life, no more signs of case head seperation after only 3-4 mild loadings. I've only had one other AR that required the brass be sized with a SB die for reliable chambering. I sold the barrel rather than having the chamber re-cut and replaced it.

FWIW, I've been using a standard full length sized die with the lee. I was only thinking of making the swap because I've always heard small base is needed with the semi auto.

Since I have been using the standard fl die with good results should I just stick with that again? Is there any way to tell if I really need the small base or not?

+1... This man speaks the truth... Small base dies are not needed (unless you like working your brass that much more) and Redding dies would be a fine upgrade.

Nevermind the small base die. After more reading online, looks like I'll be going with the redding full length sizer. Looks like it gets lots of good reviews so I'll give it a try.
