Slimmest AR forearm side-to-side?

Re: Slimmest AR forearm side-to-side?

I like the jp/vtac myself. If you need a light, add 2 inch or rail and you have a light. Rails are overrated imho unless you are in the shit and need lots of things hanging off your gun. Most people just need a good light and you only need a couple of inches or rail to add that. All the extra rail just snags on stuff, cuts your hands or requires covers.

This thread really evokes a core thought in gun design and one that probaly Remingtons greatest engineer John Crittedon held true. In that the "Weapons Hold" cannot be larger then the diameter of a firm grasp. Rails systems or the Chritmas Tree effect that has happened to the M16 and its variant has gotten away from this.
Basically if it is wider than an M4 handguard it gets away from this rule. I like the "Y" handguard and also RRA Elite in that it is dual function with a rail area and "HOLD" area.
Side rails full length become useless and do not allow the user to hold the rifle correctly.
My thoughts.
