sling stud to picatinny rail adaptor for RECESSED sling stud recommendation

In the process of moving bipods over to Atlas from Harris. Want to change out all sling studs to pic rails.

Running into an issue with a .22 because the sling stud on this rifle is not the traditional metal stud that sticks out prominently.

Instead, it's a hole molded into the stock in a recessed position so the adapters I have been using do not work with it.

Maybe 500 cord (or narrower) knotted around a ring or clip ? Ya can check out the Marlin forum ...

If your handy you may just want to install an atlas rail into your marlin stock or drill and tap a sling stud into the stock and attach your rail to that. Either way it looks like modifications to the stock. How were you planning on attaching the atlas to the stock right now with a stud?

You're most likely looking at a permanent modification. Grind down the protruding part of the recessed loop, then drill and install a pic rail with nutserts from the barrel channel side of the stock.

Jwood's rec probably would be the best long term solution. My final jackass solution was to use a very small but fairly strong key ring (like the kind that would attach to a small flashlight) to loop onto the recessed sling stud to extend the length of the loop/ring thus allowing the pin from the Caldwell sling stud to pic rail adapter to be engaged. The adaptor bolted on like it normally does for any other metal sling stud that sticks out.

Caldwell has a version that has a sling stud attached to the back of the adaptor as well so you can run both the pic rail AND a sling stud for a sling… but you can't run a Harris bipod off the perpendicularly positioned sling stud attached to the adaptor.
