Had a quick question, I marked my confidence shot, but are we supposed to grade our own targets, or just leave them as is and send them in? I've gotta get this thing postmarked for monday, so I better hurry!
I had a great time doing this, and plan to enter in many of the next ones. Also met some guys on the range that were interested in the match, so I passed on the information. I had no idea how a little bit of stress by putting some value on your targets can add up down range.
Keep up the good work here, I enjoyed the chance to support the cause and had a bit of fun doing it. Thank you. ZM

You don't need to grade your target. Just mark your confidence shot and circle the extra holes from your cold bore shot and send it in. That should be sufficient.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Thank you for the responses! Put it in the mailbox on monday 21st, so hopefully the postmark date makes it on time. I'm new to precision shooting, but I've already gained a ton of tips lurking on this forum, which I think really helped on the match. I also did a rough estimate on my score, and in comparison with the previous matches, I think I might be somewhere in the mid range on the scoring. Good thing you get more than one target, I'll admit my first on was really rough

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

this is such an awesome match. I love it, we have some great sponsors!!! big ups to them, they will be remembered when I need to buy something.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

For me, the purpose of this is to learn and grow each time I shoot.

I learned you should NEVER use Fire-forming loads for any kind of match!! hahaha

I am reasonably sure I set a new personal low on the centerfire side.
On the plus side, I did learn alot about the rusults of being too busy to take time to reload proper ammo.

It's just too bad that making a living can get in the way of life.

Been a little over a week since the deadline. JB is really good about getting the information out. It should be literally any moment now...

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

I know, I have been anxious too! I've been checking this post and the site nearly every day, but I realize that this must take a lot of effort on JB's part and I'm sure this isn't the only thing he has to do in his life, so I'm remaining patient.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Agreed! As a side note, I never noticed how many smileys I see in an average day. Call me crazy, but every time I see one I can't help thinking about wiping it out from 100 yards!
Guess what? I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more smileys!

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

I guarantee that you will absolutely love it!! It is an awesome challenge, and will definately test your limits, as well as show any weaknesses. BUT, you will be comin back for more!!

Thank you Jason and sponsors for making this possible!

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Man, if only... been a while now fellas. I absolutely love this shoot, but it continues to be a very humbling experience. Awesome competition, and nobody bitches. Gotta love it!!

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Finished top 20 with a Remington SPS Tactical in .308 with handloads and a Bell and Carlson stock. First time ever in the field with it. Dang good shooting.

Rimfire, I must have mixed up mine and my sons...I shot a way better group than that...oh well, that will teach me to pay attention...

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Man you guys are tough on the rimfire targets

Well done shooters!!!

Mr. Jason, thanks again, it was a pleasure Can't wait to do it again.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Like everyone else has said, Thank You Jason for your time and patience with this match. We enjoyed shooting these at training and look forward to the upcoming matches. We will definitely participate in more.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Thanks again for hosting this Jason. It has to take a lot of time to do. Thanks to all the great sponsors. There are days I won't even hunt in the conditions I go Smiley Smaking in. It really makes you get off the couch and see what you can do. No losers in this contest

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Those smiles are so dang humbling!! Like they say you are no better than your last shot. I have about 1000 rounds through the .243 used and the biggest three shot group is usually in the .3-.4 yet I managed to deliver a beautiful 1"+ on game day!!!

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Thank you Jason for all that you do.

Big Thank You to all the sponsors for your support.

Congrats to the winners for some fine shooting & scores.

Looking forward to the Flakes.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

Regards

Mark

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Good shooting Matchking and Matt!!

How do you type an evil laugh???
Bwahahaha

(Now I just need to slightly bend the barrel on sevenmm's Savage)
haha

Seriously Matt, Ballsy confidence shot!!

Thanks a ton to JB and all the sponsors!!
Always learn more than I think I will.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

I am so PO'ed. I went to my rifle range to shoot the rimfire and the 50 was closed. I asked them when it would be open, they said in 30 minutes. I wasted 30 minutes, they told me another 30 minutes. I had to go back to work empty handed.

I actually had a CF shot, but it was horrible and without a RF, I didn't get up the energy to send. Hopefully, better luck next time.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

The savage really likes the wolf. Getting rid of the pos stock helped too.

If a guy isn't willing to risk a little by shooting the 40 pointer your not gonna have a top score with this group of shooters.

Thanks Jason for your time and efforts.

Thanks to the sponsors for your generosity.

Matt

Don't feel alone Brother!! I forgot my reloads and ended up shooting Fed Pwr Shocks... and it shows.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

I shot the target with my AR using my 6x-24x Burris and get a .66" 3 shot group at 100yds. After that I switched over to my cheap 3x-9x predator calling scope and belt out a 3 shot .63" 189yd group. It never seems to happen on match targets that way
laugh.gif
. I may have to shoot the cheap scope on the snowflakes

Re: SMACK the SMILEY - FALL 2011 - ENTRY OPEN!

Wow. I didn't have ammo loaded for one of my "good" rifles, so I took my little .223. Shot three targets and the other two were not impressive at all. Sometimes better to be lucky than good!!

Again, thanks JB and all of the sponsors. Great shooting everyone.
