I have a Savage MK II F .22lr that has the traditional rimfire scope mount grooves on top of the receiver but I really want to put a 20 moa base rail on it. My question to you all is, would it be more cost effective to have the receiver drilled and tapped for rail mounts or should I just buy a newer model rifle that is already tapped. The rifle I would get would be around $300 so which is less expensive. Thanks for your help in advance.

Buy a set of Burris Signature rimfire rings and a set of offset inserts. Fat insert in bottom of rear ring and in top of front ring and voila! Around $40. Check the daily bulletin on 6br.com (recent article) or the Burris website.
