Re: smart phones

Got me a dumb phone...outsmarted them.

Verizon, $50.00 per month, no conract, no taxes, unlimited phone, text, photos.

Seemed smart to me.

Re: smart phones

Too each their own, and for bussinessmen I can understand the convenience. But when people try convincing me I need one I just don't see it. Anything I can do on a smart phone, I can wait until I get home to use my computer.

Don't get me wrong, there have been very FEW times where I was in another city and thought, 'Well it'd be nice if I had a smart phone so I could look up X restaurant, or Y store'. But it's rare.

Re: smart phones

I have a "smart phone" and I hate it. I use it to look at the stock market (job related) and read news when I'm killing time waiting for something. However, I wouldn't miss it if it was gone.

What I hate the most is the $250 phone bill I get to pay each month for the family plan. Since I do not have any car payment, this makes my phone bill my third largest expenditure each month (mortgage and medical insurance are 1 and 2).

A dumb phone that allowed me to text and call would suit me just fine. In fact when my contract is up a dumb phone is what I will own.

What a racket I so willingly bought in to for "convenience".

Your google-fu is lacking paduan. Simply SMS a message to GOOGL (46645) with pertinant info (like zip code and restaurant type ei 15212 chinese buffet) and wait for the results to appear in the form of returned texts

works for movie times and locations, restaurants, 411 lookup, and many other cool little tidbits

Re: smart phones

You guys must be doing it wrong. My smart phone has replaced my house phone, mp3 player, car gps, and outdoor gps. I'd like to see you run a ballistic program on a dumb phone!

Kidding aside. I hate the bill but love what I can do with one. To get coverage where the family needs it i'm stuck with verison. And due to their new pricing I wont save much by switching back.

Re: smart phones

I like running xterm from my phone to manage my networks. The ballistic calculator in a pocket is a nice feature too.
Plus it makes phone calls, I can buy stuff online, and troll the shoutbox all day.

Re: smart phones

I'd rather have a phone, ipod/music, 5.0 digital camera, maps, scientific calculator, right angle calculator, thread chart, drill chart, ballistic program, the ability to check my bank statements, view insurance, pay & view bills,...yadda yadda yadda... anywhere I want with one device than have a single device purpose built for each task.

If your 13 and have a smart phone, that's just manipulating your parents into giving you a status symbol and I agree with above posts.

I'm afraid you guys are just getting old...

Why would yu be running from the gubmint? One should always love, trust and obey, their gubmint. Our gubmint wants the very best for us. I LOVE my gubmint. This new technology will heop them protect and serve. I mean what if I stub my big toe and they have to send a medevac helo to rush me for treatment and then prepare finacial aid to help me recover? Thank you gubmint.
