I was looking at one today at the shop...

Anybody have any experiance with this particular model M&P15?
Would you recommend it for a first time AR buyer? (me!)

Just lookin for reviews... positive or negative!

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Smith and Wesson M&P 15 PS

I had a M&P 15T and loved it. Shot great groups out of the box and never failed on me once. I would say they are great for a first time buyer. The only reason I sold mine was to fund another build of my own.

Do you know if they have a Mil-spec buffer tube or not?

I went ahead and bought the rifle... but the BATF put a hold on my background check, so I won't be able to get my paws on it for a few days!

But I figured that'd give me some time to get some furniture, ammo, mags, a dot sight and irons online... but I'm not sure whether its a commercial (which I'd suspect) or Mil-spec buffer tube (for a new stock)

Goddammit... I don't even have the gun in my posession yet, and its already about to get the "barbie doll" treatment!

I am guessing everything about it is Mil-spec except for the piston system

The fact that there is no set standard for piston AR's is the reason I don't have one . I think it is better system than DI AR's but when they break you have to go back to the manufacturer to get replacement parts .

Sorry I missed the Piston part in the thread title. So everything but the piston like Mike pointed out

+1 to this! My buddy has a M&P 15T and its a great shooting gun! I would say it will be a great first time buyers gun. Should be a positive experience...welcome to the addiction! Especially true if your first rifle is a nice reliable shooter!
