I'm currently in my local community college's Fire Technology program. However, my intention is to eventually become a wildland firefighter. Anyways, I also have an interest in becoming a gunsmith, and since wildland fires are seasonal in most states, this might work for me. I'm most interested in Lassen Community College especially since it's a few hours away and has a quite well known program from what I've heard. My main purpose of this post is for anybody who has attended the school's gunsmith program that can tell me how it works since the website doesn't really tell me much. I'm wondering if it's a degree program, a certificate program or what. Also, I've heard that the courses are only one week long. How competitive is it to get into some of the courses? Do you have to buy your own tools for the program?

Thanks to those who provide information on this

Also, are there any good gunsmith programs in Idaho? I would like to move there in the next couple years but was wondering if I should stay a bit longer in California to take advantage of Lassen.

Re: Smith school questions; CA and Idaho

I attended Lassen in 1985, the 1 week long classes were the summer classes sponsored by the NRA. The regular program is a degree or certificate program. For the certificate you have to take just the gunsmithing classes for the degree you need english, math, history etc. They will accept transfer classes from other community colleges. You might take a summer NRA class to see if you like the school. I choose Lassen because at the time I lived in Ca. and it was a lot less money for me to attend Lassen.
Good Luck, Ken
