I bought a 30mm scope mount from Ebay.

I simply wanted a serviceable inexpensive mount to put an Athlon 1-4 on my trainer...I did not need something for going to war just something decent. Primary Arms is out of their house mount so I looked around Ebay and saw this:

Looked OK, reviews I found in the sellers feedback were good, price was great so I figured I’d give it a shot. Nowhere in the pics or in the ad did it show a brand name or anything like that. Just a cheap Chinese (I figured) mount that would work fine for the application. It did not occur to me at the time that it looked like any particular mount but seemed to have some distinctive machining and I really thought it was just a good inexpensive product that some company imported.

What showed up however was something I would not have bought had the pictures been honest.

Even shows a patent number ?. Blatant copy of Geissele and I didn’t realize from the ad. It was crystal clear when it came and had their name all over it. I feel like an idiot for not realizing that it looked like their mount in the first place but I don’t own one and havent looked at them closely. Once it came I went online to see how close it looked and there is no doubt what they’re trying to do.

So I need to contact Geissele and let them know.

One of the biggest reasons I don't use PayPal is because they are part of ebay. Both companies can eat a dick. I'd rather buy direct from the manufacturer and pay more then risk getting scammed by Alibaba lite (ebay).

I ordered exactly what I showed, an inexpensive mount for a non-critical application. I knew it was a cheap ass mount and I was fine with it.

I am not upset, I do not want to own a counterfeit and want the real manufacturer to be aware. I sent them an email.

A Geissele scope mount that looks like many other mounts, unlike a Spuhr that looks like nothing else.

If you removed the markings on that mount and showed it to a bunch of people at the range how many people would pick out the manufacture? Not many.

Try the same test with a Spuhr.

Geissele has thanked me for letting them know. They told me that they do not need the item and for me to ask for a refund if I prefer. So I sent Ebay a report as well as requested a refund. I informed the seller that Geissele knew about these and they replied.

So the “US Seller” does not seem to use english as his first language and offers a refund without sending the mount back.

The item is still listed. Also I just noticed others selling the same mount (in suggestions under the listing) except their pictures do show the Geissele name. I should have looked for more mounts and I possibly would have seen those.

And I also saw what appears to be a genuine Spuhr mount and some Leupolds and other name brands at decent normal prices. The trouble is how the heck can anyone looking for those names be sure of what they’re getting...

I use eBay for things like pesticides, appliance parts and other cheap little things. It is a shame that it is pretty much useless for an individual to sell stuff because the retailers have ruined it.

There was a big brouhaha a few years back over fake eBay items- I believe it was designer purses. Anyway, the CEO of EBay essentially said that if you bought a fake on EBay, you got exactly what you paid for. Zero fucks given.

I sympathize with the OP's position. There ARE differences between knowingly buying a cheap part, knowingly buying a blatant fake, and being fooled into buying a fake at "full" price. He wanted a cheap mount. Plenty of cheap Chinese items are generic, house branded, or unbranded items that do not go to any lengths to pretend to be what they are not. That is what he was looking for- cheap generic chinesium mount. Without the lettering, the mount is- chatatably- a generic mount that borrows stylistic ques from a popular mount. With the lettering, it is a deception.

Personally, I'd go at it with some acetone, or rattle can it and drive forward.

There is a difference between a "US Seller" and "US Stock".

A lot of Chinese sellers understand that "US Stock" means you get the sale since folks don't want to wait for shipping from China and will filter on that in eBay, so they import a whole bunch of stuff at once to one of their friends garages and have them ship from the USA as orders come in. Usually just grab one slap label on it and ship it.

Kind of the Chinese version of what Amazon offers for sellers to stock stuff in their warehouses.

I don’t buy name brand stuff from ebay. I do get things like Dominion 2L and the odd appliance part or even the tires on my truck (waited for a 15% off ebay sale and they shipped to my house, Toyos).

@W54/XM-388 I alway choose “us only” in the filter but understand what you’re saying. They list themselves as US but are not sometimes it seems.

For the record, I have what I assume is a cheap Chinese one piece mount on my slickside hunting AR (No name, supposedly came from eBay) It came with the upper, which is a non-nitride, non-chrome skinny barrel 1:9 DPMS I gave a buddy $100 for. It even wears a second hand Burris 2-7x32 (oh the horror) but has killed every deer it lines up on.

I am not advocating fakes, in fact I want people to be aware of this switch a roo.

I went to PA first, but they are showing to not have any mounts and be back ordered. I don’t need a high end mount for a plastic AR trainer. I know most here put Spuhr mounts and S&B scopes on their $300 SW15-22s but I’m not independently wealthy like the majority of SH. ?

Might I suggest you find a sugar mama.
