It was better than the segment on Army snipers, which featured multitudinous trigger-slapping by people who ought to know better - like Sniper School instructors.

One Marine was pulling - and I do mean pulling, not squeezing - the trigger with either his middle finger or his third finger while his hand remained on the bolt. Dunno why he might have thought that was a good idea, unless his index finger is missing, which didn't appear to be the case.

LOL, I saw that too and was thinking, "what the hell is that?" I DVR'ed it because Iw as busy talking to a friend when it aired, but I did happen to see that particular "method" of firing the rifle. LOL, not all techniques were created equal.

Re: SNIPER SHOW ON MILITARY CHANNEL

Yeah the thing I thought was interesting on last nites episode was that the Marine Scouts are switching from the M40A5 24" 1-12 barrel to a M40A5 20" 1-10twist barrel with supressors in the near future. Hmmmmmmm.

Re: SNIPER SHOW ON MILITARY CHANNEL

when they are shooting with the middle finger or ring finger it allows for faster bolt manipulation, less distance traveled by the hand to rack the bolt.

With that said do as you wish, but remember, you may have gave "JUBA" what he needed to make himself better at what he does...killing american soldiers...

I appreciate your concern about this topic, however, let's face it... the Army instructors are not going to give out sensitive info even under the guise of "secret math formula" BS. ANYONE who can look at a bullet path chart and has a basic understanding of MPBR can conclude how this application works. We're not talking about "eyes only" top-secret, decoder ring stuff here. Unless the Army is using bullets from Crypton with unknown flight path data, the rules of exterior ballistics apply. If this info was not appropriate for public consumption and discussion, it simply would not have been released. Period.

Re: SNIPER SHOW ON MILITARY CHANNEL

It was ok. Had a few Marines from my old unit (1/9) on there.

The most troubling aspect of the show to me was the fact that the SSgt's and above looked really young to me - which reinforced the fact that I'm getting old. LOL

Re: SNIPER SHOW ON MILITARY CHANNEL

They did in fact do a show on HITRON and may have included some stuff from other units. I was deployed when they filmed it so I really don't know what they even have footage of. From what some of my guys said, they focused mostly on the airborne stuff, not alot of flat range work when they came down.

Re: SNIPER SHOW ON MILITARY CHANNEL

there is a purpose to using your middle finger to pull the trigger. when doing rapid bolt you can use your middle finger to pull the trigger in order to be able to keep you from having to reset your shooting hand position. it saves a little time. would not make any difference to about 99% of the people on here for range work, but for the people who actually put rounds through dudes for a living, its an important skill to have.

i was wondering that as well. Got home to watch and ...............nothing

Re: SNIPER SHOW ON MILITARY CHANNEL

My Directv DVR is set to record the series. It currently shows only one episode, which is a repeat of the Army episode at 0700 EST on January 12th. No other episodes are listed in the time span it uses, which is two weeks into the future.

Re: SNIPER SHOW ON MILITARY CHANNEL

It looks like they are going to beat the crap out of the first two before they give us the second two. Odd, but not uncommon. I guess the good thing is that they will then beat the crap out of the second two as well.

Re: SNIPER SHOW ON MILITARY CHANNEL

The two remaining new episodes will premier Thursday Feb 25.

Coast Guard - Modern Sniper Coast Guard explores the role of the famous HITRON UNIT and their duty to stop the flow of illegal drugs into America one sniper shot at a time.

Advanced Sniper - The definition of a Sniper is: "A skilled military shooter detailed to spot and pick off enemy soldiers from a concealed place." Look at the advanced training techniques that transform these ordinary men into smart, inventive soldiers.

Re: SNIPER SHOW ON MILITARY CHANNEL

Is this the same one that I saw on the History Channel last Sunday? There was a two hour show called "Sniper: Inside the Crosshairs" (I think) that showed Gunny Hathcock killing the Cobra, then they tried it with modern equipment. Then they talked about Cpl. Pace(?) in Fallujah who had 32 CK's, then he took his 600m shot at the guy running across the alley again. Basically, they talked about several memorable sniper engagements and then did them again with modern equipment, sometimes with the same sniper. Chuck Mawhinney's engagement of the VC crossing the creek where he killed 17(?) of them in 25 seconds was done with a modern rifle shooting ballons. Pretty entertaining show!
