Movie Theater Sniper Ultimate Championship

I just viewed a 2 hour program from Fort Benning GA entitled 2018 Sniper Ultimate Championships. I was disappointed that the host did not talk about the rifles, optics, night vision or suppressors used. It appeared that most rifles were AR10 and only a couple of Remington 700 bolt guns with heavy short barrels. I assume that all competitors had to use the NATO 7.62x51mm. I make that assumption based on two things. One, maximum target distance was only 900yds and as I recall there was only one or possibly two targets at the distance. Two, the low B.C. bullet for that caliber makes shots beyond 900yds very difficult. I am really interested in the AR10's that were used. Any info would be appreciated.

I am guessing that you saw the 2017 International Sniper Competition (ISC)? That was the show that was just on the History Channel with Tim Kennedy as the host.

If that is the case,
- Yes there was a requirement that the rifles be .308/7.62
- Those rifles were primarily M110 SASS, but there were also other makes/models present. The winners were actually running rifles made by Lanxang.

Shooting beyond 900 yards with any short action non-magnum caliber is difficult. Period. Only fools think that's easy.

The 308 Winchester may be slightly more difficult that some others, but that is nothing that cannot be overcome with knowledge of your bullet's actual (not computed) ballistics as well as knowledge of what the wind is doing.

1000 is pretty ho-hum with 6.5 creedmoor shooting at man sized targets.

If it's man sized targets, at 1000 yards .308 is not that difficult if you have a good rifle & decent ammo.

Thank you for the info. Bartlein is high end stuff. You must be a DX shooter. I am barely a marksman and losing eyesight and finger/hand control on a monthly basis.
