Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

heck yeah man. i have never shot past a hundred trying to be accurate till tuesday and man im hooked. it took me a little while and i got confused a short bit when i was shooting at an unknown target distance that was actually 200 with my 100yd zero. i was shooting under and got a little frustrated but when i figured out what was going on i dialed that baby in and sent 3 down range at 200 300 and 450. didnt know the yardage at the time but my scope works flawless with my rifle after i figured out what i was doing. you better come shoot man i wouldnt drive that far and not give it a try.

Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

mac, it takes me an hour to an hour and 15 mins to get there ..... if you come out to watch you are gonna be there all day ... so if you are gonna be there all day you might as well shoot it too.

Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

Guys bring a way to keep up with the ammo u have fired...

If Joe says 60 rounds I count out 60 and set them to the side...u loose points for shooting to many rounds over

Bring a small note pad to keep some notes with...I "try" to write something down about everystage...that way I can go back and look over them if we shoot something similar again

That was the toughest match Ive shot out there ... first time he hasblanked me on a stage, I am usually good for atleast 1 hit per stage ... that second stage was BRUTAL.

Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

Today's match defined "challenge". Joe mixes things up all the time so if this was your first match y'all should come back for the next one. It's different every time and always fun. Congrats to Mr. Tapp on the win!!!!!!!

Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

The course was very challenging. I walked away with a lot having shot it.

Most definitely a great group of guys. I'll be back again.

Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

Well Here is a little AAR of the match for those that didnt make it, or who are thinking about coming to a match in the future.

Stage 1, spotter and shooter are at start cones with 2 cinderblocks and some rope tied together.
IMG_0005.jpg

Shooter had to carry the blocks up to the point of engaing where he had to place the blocks so they were touching a barrel, if the blocks did not touch the barrel you would not get credit for any hits made. Score keeper was not listening to the shooter, and was only listening to the spotter who had to call targets.
IMG_0014.jpg

Spotter was behind the shooter by about 15 yards or so .....
IMG_0024.jpg

OH did I mention that there was a 6inch diamond placed in front of a silhouette that you had to shoot at first ..... and if you shot the silhouette it was a no shoot and cost you a hit. Aproximate distance 480 yards to targets.

Stage 2, now this one skunked A LOT of people.

It started off with spotter and shooter doing a short little run thru the woods, then into some surveyors tape set up that if you broke the tape you lost total time you had to shoot the stage in, for each tape broke it was 5 seconds off your 3 and a half minute time limit. On the tape you had your choice, over or under.
IMG_0155.jpg

When you got to your desitation
IMG_0184.jpg

is what you were faced with, 12 total targets, 4 shooting positions, could not reengage a target until you had shot at each target. You had to shoot off the top of the obstacle, kneeling, standing and prone. Kneeling and prone had targets in one area, standing and the top side shot had targets in another area.
IMG_0178.jpg

The bars got in the way of getting comfortable in the prone.
Some chose to climb on top for the top shots.
IMG_0176.jpg

Standing was a little difficult because you couldnt really get a good upright position.
IMG_0243.jpg

Aproximate distance was about 530yards to targets.

I think thats my pic limit for this post so Ill make a second post with more pics and more description on the other 2 stages.

Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

hell yeah we will be back, that guy i brought with me that was my spotter. i have already got him talked into a rifle and he will probably get one next week. oh yeah it was nice to meet you guys( fro and outsy). my gf was agging me to get home and i didnt get to shake yalls hand. the tournament was definitely a challenge and i will bring others to the next one.

Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

Stage 3, had 3 different shooting positions to shoot from and targets in 3 different areas.

Shoot from a table seated in a chair
IMG_0282.jpg

Oh and you were accountable for your brass as well (downside to running a gasser).
IMG_0303.jpg

Spotter caught most of the brass in a hat shielding with his body.
Get up from the table and chair and move to a second shooting position, there was brush and stuff in the point where you could not shoot it prone. Basically had to shoot it partner assisted and there are multiple ways to do it.
IMG_0301.jpg

IMG_0287.jpg

IMG_0283.jpg

Each piece of brass not accounted for cost you a hit.
Target distance was aprox 420yards from the table, about 450, from the partner assisted spot, and there was a third shooting position from this stage but not many people got there within time limit. Third shooting position was get up from the PA spot and go down an embankment follow a sand bar about 15 feet, then back up and climb into a tree and shoot out of the tree. Target distance there was about 350 or so.

Stage 4 was a speed stage, 7 targets 60 seconds. Unfortunately I dont have any pics of this since the photographer went home early. 14 rifles laid on the line, spotter and shooter standing behind them on go, get down behind your rifle, load and engage targets .... Silhouette, 10"x12" plate, 2"x6" ruler verticle, 2"x6" ruler horizontal, a softball, and a tennis ball. These targets were shot at the shortest distance of the day, about 335 yards.

Maybe next time yall will come on out and shoot with us.

Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

It was nice to meet a bunch of new people down here. Had a great time at the match, apparently Joe doesnt believe in anything being easy. I thought I was going to have an advantage with the POF and the time limits, until Joe decided each piece of brass on the ground at the end of your time was minus a hit. Will have to rethink which rifle to use next time.

Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

Great match, excellent variety of shots in distance, target size and degree of difficulty.

In some ways this was the toughest Sniper Challenge I've competed in at Creekside. While it was tough, there were plenty of nice prone shots at large steel targets. Everyone got some hits, nobody got 'em all.

Can't wait for the Summer edition and the annual slosh through the creek stage!

Great to visit with old friends and meet new ones. Thanks again to my spotter Scott H! I don't owe you a beer sir, I owe you a case of 'em.

David

Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

Hope everyone had a good time. Weather was awesome, little wind but not too bad. Good right up outsy but you are a little wrong on the distances. Probably why most people missed alot of targets at the match. You are about 50 to 100 yards off on the distances. We had targets closer to you than you thought they were, and some a little further than you thought they were.

Re: Snipers Challenge Taylorsville GA

It was great to see and meet some new faces out there this weekend.
I'm sure glad u all had a great time and be on the look out for a thread when the next one rolls around...

Also Joe runs some great 3 gun, 22 2 gun, Tac Rifle, Tac Pistol and Sub gun matches...
And some damn good class's if u are wanting to learn a thing or two
