I curremtly own a 300winmag. Ive been doing dome thinking and want to shot the high bc .308 bullets 200grn+. Would it be worth my money to rechamber my 300wm to a 300rum. This will be my lomgrange hunting rifle. All opinons welcome.

Thanks
Darrin

No.

If your barrel twist in the 300 win mag will stablize the 208 you can use it effectively in your current rifle. Let's all be honest, while hunting we shouldn't be taking 1000yard shots unless we are 100% sure we are going to make a clean kill.

The 208amax at 300wm speeds is fine. The ultra mag will only burn your barrel faster and kick harder. It will give you a couple hundred extra yards but so far out there that it won't matter for a hunting rig.

Darrin,
Like as stated above trial a few 208's and go from there with the right powder combination you may get what you want. If that doesn't work then go look at chambering or a new barrel.
Now if you roll your own look at the 338 Edge (338-300RUM) I have seen some pretty good results coming out of this one.

Good Luck!

Curremtly you snould not rechamber your lomgrange rifle, dome will say....

Re: Snould I rechamber

I wouldn't even entertain the idea of rechambering to .300 RUM unless you have a #7 Contour 27.5" bbl. with a Mcmillan Stock w/ solid fill and two mercury recoil reducers in the butt along w/ a 1" Limbsaver Pad.

Re: Snould I rechamber

Thats kinda what i've been thinking. I will put my money on new glass. I will not be taking shots past 700yrds. B/c my range finder only ranges that far. However on targets I want to stretch out my legs of my 300wm.
