I didn't measure the barrel threads yet.

You said "stock thread pitch" in #7.
How do you know this, if you haven't measured it??

My first reaction from the pictures was the receiver threads were damaged from an eff up during single-pointing- and the smith "fixed" it by turning off the barrel threads in the same area.

Have multiple barrels with stock threading. Test barrel went smoothly into the action without issues. Or at least to the junk on the threads.
