Hey gents, I've got a question for ya'll & I'm curious to hear the answers. I bought a SOCOM II a little while ago & it's a great gun for it's intended purpose (battle rifle). I read an article where a guy claimed to hit steel consistently at 800M w/ a SOCOM II. I want to know how far out ya'll have reached w/ consistent accuracy and a 16 inch barreled M1A. We're talking stock guns, ie no aftermarket barrels, triggers, etc. Thanks ahead of time for your input.

I shot one last summer on a 3/4 ipsc target at 300, 400 and 600yds with irons. Not precision in any way but I made contact fairly easy. 600 I definitely had 2 sighter rounds before contact but then I was able to consistently hit it over and over. Hits were all over though. I figured it pretty good for irons.

Before I traded mine it had to go back to SA because of an unfinished chamber that was sticking brass. 1st time back same problem 2nd time they replace the barrel. Never get it to shoot better than 2 moa with iron sights.

Firstly, I appreciate your input. Secondly, I should have been a bit clearer in my original post; I didn't mean only on iron sights. Iron sights are fine but w/ the quad rail they are not optimal, - to say the least. Iron sights on a SOCOM 16 aren't too bad. For this particular question, optics are certainly acceptable. I just want to clarify that particular point. Believe it or not, mine will usually do MOA at 100 from a sandbag. That is using Hornady TAP 110 gr.

Mine will print 4-6 moa at 100y so I never even considered shooting it at distance. I have a fleeting suspicion that mine's a lemon.

If it makes you feel any better there's a guy that came in our shop today with a Mossberg MMR POS that scoped is getting 2" groups at 100, and 16" groups at 200 lol...
