I was at a USPSA match recently when a fellow competitor had a negligent discharge, thankfully safely downrange. That served as a reminder soft body armor wouldn't be a totally bad idea around lots of people with guns. I've served as a RO ever since we called it IPSC and I've certainly been swept a few times over the years, so it's not the first time this has occurred to me. I do own a set of rifle plates because, well just because I can. Not really a place for a plate carrier, though. I'd like advice on a level 3a vest, with the prime consideration it's concealability. I can expect a certain amount of good natured ribbing from my peers. Though I do notice that the IFAK is much more commonly seen these days, so I'm not the only one thinking this way.

Lots of places sell decent concealable vests.
Something to consider however is the heat load in wearing one.
Unless it's really cold outside, you are going to be pretty miserable pretty quickly being outside in one, depending on where you live.
Kind of why I hope if trouble goes down, it goes down in the middle of winter HA!

If you want one direct through them, you'll just have to place an order with crye, as they don't give lead times generally. OP Tactical has them as well but are OOS, they also have notifications, but are more responsive to messages on FB.
Thank you, I've wondered if that Crye product was ever available. Seems like a quite concealable option.
And UpSideDown isn't wrong for pondering those questions. . I'm torn if it's really necessary. I've been ROing matches at many levels for many years and never known of anyone shot in the torso. I've certainly seen negligent discharges, both down range and into the ground at the shooter's feet. I've been swept, both in matches and while assisting training. Those permit classes are probably the worst. I've known of a few people wearing armor, but that was at National matches or they were local law enforcement. I did wear a borrowed plate carrier in Pat Roger's shoot house over a decade ago, but that was his policy. From experience, I realize I'd get some good natured shit from my fellow club members. So I will have to really consider if I would wear it at matches.
