Rifle Scopes Solid hunting scope

For the 3-9x42 SWFA, you can get a zero stop kit for it from TimK here. Ordered mine through his Paypal and had them within a week. They are great, my 10x40 now has a zero stop that is right at .4 mil under zero. Great kit for $22.

Y’all remember his budget. The NF, Steiner, etc optics are super nice for sure, but he’s looking at a $700 budget. Let’s try to frame it around there, maybe up to $1k if he can stretch it. No need in showing a guy something they may not want to or can afford, I know I certainly couldn’t!

OP, as stated there are many options to choose from, SWFA 3-9/3-15, the mentioned Weaver, some Leupold VXs, that new Nikon scope, Vortex LHs, a used Bushnell LHRS, etc. They are all going to be solid performers for the price. Just pick which one has the compromises you are willing to live with.

Heck a fixed 10x40mm SWFA ($300) with an offset red dot (like a Vortex/Burris at about $200-$400) can cover most of anything!

Not too long ago leupold retailers were blowing out the VX-6 in all magnification ranges in preparation for the newer Hd model. Almost 50% off. I very nearly bought one but ended up going big on the HD 2-12.

I have a Burris XTR2 3-15 G2B on two of my hunting rifles. It really is everything I could ask for in a low light hunting rifle scope. The only problem is that it is not light weight at 30 ounces.
It also has enough elevation, that it is a legitimate 1 mile scope with a 20 MOA rail. It is what my brother uses on his mile shots. I have never shot close to that far before.

Oh boy.

Oh man.

Do we need to go give Pat Sinclair a call? A guy who's hunting with S&B PMII fixed 10x and killed more trophy animals than all of us combined?

Is this the same Pat Sinclair that teamed up with GAP (George Garner) in 2013 to spec out the quote "perfect hunting scope"?
(resulting product = Bushnell LRHS 3-12)

I’ve had the SHV come up in conversation before. I haven’t had a chance to look through one either. I guess I hadn’t given much thought to the lower power scopes. Perhaps I should change my thinking.

I have the SHV ffp mil/mil and my only complaint is a tight eye box. Helps kill the shit out of coyotes?

Yup. And based on your response and many others here, it was a great business decision by Bushnell to offer the 2 LRHS offerings in variable power. They got EVERYTHING right on the LRHS from a hunting scope perspective...

1) Zero stop elevation
2) Capped windage
3) Matching click value with reticle value
4) G2H with "circle of death" center duplex
5) Price. It kicks the same buckets as scopes 2x and 3x its price range.

The only complaints I've seen are the weight penalty and the early models lacking enough spline count to rezero the elevation knob. Bushnell fixed that issue. And the weight...no free lunch if you want an erector system that works time after time.

IMO, the lack of a fixed option doesn't undermine the scope one bit.
