I have searched quite a bit and am not looking to start a SOLID VS Jacketed bullets. I am looking at trying the Lehigh bullets "match hybrid" that says it will work in standard chambers (non borerider). I will be shooting it out of an EDM windrunner in 50 bmg. Has anyone tried this set up with any luck? $95 for 50 is a good penny if they do not work, but is still cheaper than the AMAX. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check the FCSA site! Lots of guys are shooting them at 1000yds with great results!

Also, try North Coast Shooters! There are a crap load of 50 shooters on that site!

My bud shoots a windrunner and hasn't had any luck with lehigh, barnes, lapua or any type of monolithic projo. He did get some better accuracy with the heavier projo's(825+grns),but the recoil was intolerable. The Amax and Rky Mtn projos work better in his WR.Most of the shooters that are shooting the smallest groups with the solids are useing heavy rifles with specific borerider chambers and looong barrels.

I am reposting a bunch but I will go over this again. I have had great results with the 690-700 grain pulled and sized AP from HiTech. They are inexpensive and very accurate. Not as accurate as the AMax but close. What are you trying to do? Competitions, plinking, target shooting, etc.?

Re: Solids out of a 50bmg windrunner?

I would like to shoot in a few 1000 yard competitions, I would also like to have the capability to shoot out to 1800 to 2000 yds. I know that is stretching it out there, but that is why I would like the best possible projectile. Lehighs were the best priced also. I talked with the owner of lehigh he said that the hybrids should shoot fine out of my gun (single shot) but I figured I would ask around first. I definetly do not have unlimited funds to spend on this. I also have the API's I am doing load development now but I do not believe they will have the capability to do what I want them to at the extended ranges.

Other than MK211 stuff the standard AP 690-700 stuff is the most accurate and longest range of any of the military projo's. These work great at 1,000 have not shot further though. You are stretching any projo at 2K with the .50 Since you said it was a single shot it must be an M98. It will like AMax for extended ranges. Don't have enough info for you on the Lehighs.

Re: Solids out of a 50bmg windrunner?

When I said single shot that is because the COAL with the Lehigh would be to long to fit in the Mag, it is a M96. I have the silver tip API's that usually vary between 642 gr and 648gr. They will be my main shooting round. Why isn't Crod selling anymore 50 brass?

In 1K competition, you'll only be able to shoot monolithic or jacketed bullets.I know dave from lehigh and have tested/shot his projos out of my rifles for years, but the Amax has been my goto projo when I'm shooting in a match.I've shot almost every type of 50 projo out there and Ball ammo is only good for getting trigger time + blowing rocks up,Even resized+sorted ball. You'll get decent groups out to 600 yds,but If you want to compete, then you'll have to spend some $$$ on proven projos. This applies to all calibers, not just the 50.

He said the supplier he was getting brass from can no longer get it. But as I said you may want to find out if he has any LC left.

Re: Solids out of a 50bmg windrunner?

i have tried everything out of my match gun that does not have a bore rider chamber. i can not get solids to shoot i have tried them all. i shoot amax bullets. I can tell you that the solid barnes non bore riders 750 will probably shoot but i ran out, i am going to test more once the weather warms. In my gun if there is a differance in the band diameter it will not shoot. thats the reason why they are making bore rider throats. A lehigh hybrid is still a bore rider.
